Dear Graduates, Families, and Friends,
Commencement marks the beginning of a new chapter. As we gathered on May 23, 2024, to confer degrees upon 84 graduates from Williamson College of the Trades, we celebrated their remarkable achievements. We also welcomed the return of Kevin O’Connor from This Old House, who delivered an inspiring commencement address to the graduates, their families, and friends.
Williamson College of the Trades was featured on the popular PBS show This Old House in 2022 (click here to watch the episode). During that segment, O’Connor shared his passion for the trades and enthusiasm for preserving the art of building. Since then, he’s been an avid supporter of Williamson’s mission. His message to the Class of 2024 further empathized the value of a comprehensive trade education.
I share the sentiments expressed in O’Connor’s address and feel immense pride for all our graduates have accomplished. Three years ago, these young men came to Williamson with a dream for mastering a specialized trade. During the 1,000-day journey that followed, they achieved so much more. While their paths were unique, each student developed into a Williamson Man, founded on a bedrock of core values and prepared to lead within his chosen trade and community.
On behalf of everyone at Williamson College of the Trades, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and their families. As these new Williamson alumni step out into the world, they carry a strong legacy, supported by our staff, teachers, mentors, partners, and other alums. We appreciate the collective efforts of everyone who has been part of our students’ journeys—for believing in their success and guiding them toward their achievements. We eagerly anticipate seeing how their bright futures unfold.
We hope you enjoy this video of Kevin O’Connor’s commencement speech, our special interview with him, and our featured Q&A. Stay tuned for more details about a new episode to air of This Old House highlighting some of the Williamson students featured in 2022 and updating viewers about where they are now.
Sincerely,
