Re: Provincewide Emergency Brake Shut Down

Premier Doug Ford has announced that the province of Ontario will enter a provincewide Emergency Brake Shut Down effective April 3, 2021. The shutdown will be in effect for 28 days. Click here for more information.

As a result of the provincially mandated shutdown, Special Olympics Ontario will be implementing the following measures:
Special Olympics Ontario is offering a number of opportunities to participate in virtual activities.

Healthy at Home provides options for keeping your body and mind active during the shutdown: https://sohealthyathome.ca/

Reveal Your Champion offers athletes the opportunity to set personal fitness goals and follow training sessions to achieve those goals: https://revealyourchampion.ca/

Special Olympics Ontario Virtual Games gives volunteers the opportunity to host virtual competitions to engage athletes in fun-filled sporting activities. Hosting a Virtual Games is super easy!

Vaccines:

Special Olympics Ontario is working with a number of like-minded organizations to advocate and support our athletes, volunteers and families. While we are encouraged that we’ve been identified as a priority group to receive vaccinations in Stage 2, there are many obstacles and challenges that exist on the ground.

The regional role-out plan doesn’t allow for symmetry and this will leave gaps and confusion in some districts. The government has acknowledged and asked for support in this regard. Expect more communication in the coming weeks that will assist and support you as we move forward.
