I am saddened to report the passing of Sharon Peterson, Founder and long-time Executive Director of the Montana BioScience Alliance. Sharon was among those who in 2004 recognized the value of the emerging biotechnology industry in Montana. She had a vision for what the industry could mean to our state – an economic boost, new jobs, cutting-edge research, and solutions for some of our most challenging healthcare issues. With that vision, she set about to put Montana on the bioscience map.
Sharon was always about collaboration. She truly embraced the concept of working together on a common goal. For our new organization, that goal was to position Montana as a serious contender for talent, resources, funding, and recognition in the national and global biotech arena. It was Sharon’s skill at bringing together leaders in health care, the universities, state government, economic development, biotech companies, and entrepreneurs that ultimately brought success to the Montana BioScience Alliance as we worked toward that goal.
Sharon’s vision back in 2004 is now a reality. It is evident in our labs, classrooms, small businesses, and healthcare facilities where amazing and significant accomplishments are taking place every day. Montana is now recognized as a significant player in the biotech sector. Through the hard work, dedication, and sheer tenacity of Sharon Peterson – we are on the map.
We owe so much to Sharon. We are grateful for all she did to help all of us succeed. We will miss her and extend our deepest condolences to her family and many, many friends.
