Thinking Mecanum Wheels for
FIRST RELIC RECOVERY?
We keep our finger on the pulse of FTC teams, and we know a fair number of teams are considering mecanum wheels. We've been making these wheels for competition robots for years, and we see the appeal of strafing on a crowded field this year.
We offer two wheels that are of interest to FTC teams: the
4" Standard Mecanum, which is good for lighter robots under 50 pounds, and the
4" HD Mecanum, which is robust enough to see duty even on a far heavier
FIRST Robotics Competition robot. The former can be driven using a
Nub, while the latter will need a
Wheel Conversion Plate as well to adapt to the smaller bolt circle.
To work effectively, each of the four wheels must be powered independently. You can achieve this a few different ways, including our
PicoBox Uno and
PicoBox MEO gearboxes and the new
NeveRest Sport planetary gearbox. If your team has more programmers than mechanical designers, our
TileRunner Mecanum drive system is another fast way to get this drive system up and running.
