Congratulations Class of 2024 and parents as you have made it to the 4th quarter of senior year!! There is a lot of information below, so please read carefully.

 

 

Prom

Nease High School Junior/Senior Prom 2024, “Enchanted Forest”

Friday, April 19th – 7:00-10:30pm – World Golf Village Convention Center

  • Prom is for Nease High School Junior and Senior Students!
  • Tickets will be on sale Monday, April 1 – Wednesday, April 17
  • Tickets are $70 and are limited, so purchase early.
  • All tickets will be sold via GoFan
  • Links will be included in Panther Press and on the Prom Website
  • Paper tickets will not be issued. Students must have their GoFan ticket on their phone to enter.
  • Students may bring 1 guest.
  • Guests include the following:
  • A Nease 9th or 10th grade student
  • Any student at another high school, college, virtual school
  • Someone not currently in school
  • All guest must be age 14-20
  • No guest may be currently suspended, or expelled from any school.
  • Tickets for non-Nease students or underclassmen must be purchased from Ms. Morrison in B-107. Guest forms are available now and must be completed before buying ticket. Forms can be accessed from the Nease Prom website below under the “Guest Info” tab. Forms are also available in the front office, or in Mrs. Case’s room (D-27).
  • Guest tickets will be on sale before school (8:45-9:10am), and after school for 30 minutes.
  • Guest tickets are $75 each and must be purchase using a card or Apple Pay.
  • You will purchase the ticket in person! Must turn in completed form at time GoFan is limited to one ticket per transaction. Must enter student information for each ticket. So, if purchasing for a fellow junior/senior; please coordinate with them to purchase their ticket.

Prom Court: Nominations

Prom Court nominations will run from Monday, April 1 – Friday, April 5. Any senior student may be nominated. All nominations will be online using Microsoft Form. All students nominated will appear on the ballot, so do not need to nominate a student more than once. Incomplete forms or partial names will not appear on the ballot. Voting for court will be the following week and voting for King and Queen will be at Prom.

Senior Dues - $65

This fee covers graduation expenses (facility rental, security, parking, flowers, diplomas, honor cords, tickets, programs). Seniors must be paid to be eligible to order tickets for prom, attend graduation, and receive a printed diploma.

Debit List

Seniors on the school-wide debt list will not be allowed to purchase a prom ticket or will not be given their cap & gown. If the debt remains uncleared, seniors will not be eligible to: receive graduation tickets, walk at graduation, or pick-up their diploma until the debt is cleared. Debt lists will be posted the first week of April and again the week before senior exams at the C-Pod entrance and by the student gate. Please check to ensure all debts are cleared.

 

Student numbers of seniors who have not paid senior dues and/or ordered their cap and gown will be posted on the Senior 2024 Schoology page. Please check for your student number. If you see your number and you recently paid, simply bring Ms. Morrison (B107), Mrs. Mietzner (D21) or Mrs. Jordan (C-Pod) a copy of your receipt and they will mark you as paid.

 

Senior Week: April 22nd – 26th

Daily dress-up days and fun games during lunches with prizes provided by PTSO.

GradBash – Friday, April 26th

Permission slips will be available beginning Tuesday, March 19th in B107 or D21 with a due date of Friday, April 19th.


MANDATORY Grad Bash meeting will take place Wednesday, April 24th during EXCEL A or B (attendance will be taken).

 

For those seniors attending, charter buses will depart Nease at 1pm on Friday and will return approximately @ 4am on Saturday. Students must follow the Grad Bash Dress Code Guidelines in order to attend. All seniors that have paid for GradBash should have access to the Grad Bash 2024 Schoology group. If you do not, please see Ms. Morrison (B107) or Mrs. Mietzner (D21). In early April, bus sign-ups will be available through the Schoology group. Once this is complete, Ms. Morrison will post a Remind code specific to your bus. These two GradBash channels are how we will communicate on the field trip.

 

GradBash is currently sold out, but we do offer a waiting list. Interested students should contact Ms. Morrison or Mrs. Mietzner to be placed on the waiting list. If spaces open or a student who planned to go would like to sell their ticket, a senior sponsor will contact you with information on how to complete a transfer with another senior. If contacted, you will have a limited amount of time to respond before we remove you from the waiting list and go to the next person on the list, so please be sure to check your Schoology messages. To be eligible to be placed on the waiting list, you MUST have paid your senior dues.

“Lights Out 2024” event – 7pm on Thursday, May 9th

This fun event was started a few years ago for seniors to have one last celebration together on the football field. Food will be provided and there will be some games then students will watch a movie on the scoreboard. More details and a sign-up genius will be shared later.

Yearbooks

Senior yearbook distribution is scheduled for May 8-10 pending delivery of books. Yearbooks will be distributed during lunches and Excel in front of C-pod. There will be a limited number of yearbooks for sale if one was not pre-ordered. Cost is $100. Please email yearbook sponsor leisha.cowart@stjohns.k12.fl.us with questions.

Senior Slide Show - Celebrate your senior with a slide show message!

Senior slide show will be shown at Lights Out and Graduation!

Log on to schoolpay.com to purchase the Nease Senior Slide Show, then create your slide using Microsoft PowerPoint for easy transferability. Once complete, email the completed slide to Neaseclassof24@gmail.com along with SchoolPay receipt.  


Feel free to include however many pictures you want and wording of choice as well as colors of your choice. One slide per student please, no slides for multiple students unless they are twins/triplets. Please no inappropriate pictures or wording, this will result in you needing to redo the slide. Career & Technical Fair - Wednesday, April 24th

For those seniors who have not finalized plans for life after May 21st, we will host a Career & Technical fair in the gym from 9:20am to 3pm. Seniors will attend through their English classes or during EXCEL to meet representatives from different trade schools and employers that are looking to hire.

 


Senior Awards Day – Friday, May 3rd

Awards are scheduled by appointment throughout the school day. Parents and students will be notified via email if student is receiving an award or scholarship.

 


Seniors interested in going to St. John’s River State College after graduation

Representatives from SJR will be at Nease on Thursday, April 25th for Free App Day! They are waiving the $30 application fee for all Nease High School seniors who apply for SJR’s fall 2022 enrollment with them on April 25th. They will also be able to answer any questions you might have regarding certificate/degree programs, financial aid, student life and more! They will be set-up in a conference room in C-pod, so please stop by.

 


Taking an online course?

Edmentum (grade recovery): Everything must be completed by May 1st to walk at graduation.


SJVS or FLVS: ALL coursework must be completed by May 1st, so DBA and/or final exam can be scheduled. We receive final grade reports every Monday from FLVS. We need final grades to be sent on Monday, May 13th, so we have time to add to transcript and check GPAs for graduation.


If senior does not plan on walking at graduation, they have until Friday, May 24th to finish virtual courses.

 


Senior Exit Survey

ALL Seniors must complete the Senior Survey in Naviance. Students will not receive their cap & gown until survey is completed. For seniors who plan on attending a university or college after graduation, you MUST select the post-secondary institution on the survey for a final transcript to be sent. This Survey will be available on April 1st. If you need help, stop by counselor's corner during your lunch.

 


Bright Futures

Seniors must apply for Bright Futures to be considered. The application to apply for Bright Futures is https://www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org/SAPHome/SAPHome?url=home. Seniors who still have not submitted their Community Service hours and reflection MUST do so by May 1st to their Counselor.

 

 

 EXAMS - AP/IB & Final Summatives

 

AP & IB exams

Only seniors have the privilege of arriving to school late or leaving after an AP or IB exam. Be responsible and don't miss a class where work is due, or you are preparing for another exam. These absences will be excused.

 

Students taking an AP course are required to take the exam. Students who do not show up or who sleep during the exam will be charged the $92 exam fee.

Final Summatives & District Final - May 6th – 10th 

 The only district final exam is for English 4 standard & honors and it will be administered on Monday & Tuesday, May 6th & 7th. Teachers will schedule their final summative the week of May 6th.



Textbook Return

Students need to return all textbooks and books to the Media Center as they finish exams. Every item checked out to a student MUST be returned no later than Wednesday, May 8th or cap and gown will be held.

 


Last day for seniors, IF all graduation requirements have been met is Friday, May 10th.

Cap & Gown Pick-up - Friday, May 10th at Nease Stadium

Students must sign-up for an appointment time to pick-up cap & gown. We have slots for 60 students every 15mins from 8am to 1pm. For IB students since you have an exam, Mrs. Kennedy will have your cap & gown as long as you are paid in full with Herff Jones.

Honor cords

These items will be given to seniors when they pick-up their cap and gown on Friday, May 10th if all debts are cleared. Please remember that honor cords for GPA (magna cum laude, summa cum laude, and cum laude) are based on the cumulative GPA calculated after 7 semesters (1st semester of senior year). This current semester is NOT calculated into the GPA for honor cords.

 


Graduation tickets

Each student walking will receive 7 tickets on Friday, May 10th if all debts are cleared.



Need extra tickets for graduation?

We will distribute extra tickets at the end of MANDATORY REHEARSAL on Thursday, May 16th at UNF. Every senior that needs extra tickets must stay after the mandatory rehearsal. Every senior that stays will be given one ticket. Those that only need one ticket will leave. We will give everyone remaining another ticket. Those that only need two tickets will leave. We will continue in this manner until all remaining tickets are distributed.

 


Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal

Thursday, May 16th – 9am to 11am at UNF Arena

ALL seniors planning on participating in graduation ceremony are required to attend as there are no AP or IB exams at this time. Missing for work is not allowed as you have ample time to request off.

Graduation Attire

Graduation is a special ceremony where we have an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the enormous amounts of hard work that our students and families have invested into the completion of the K-12 educational journey. To preserve the dignity and decorum that traditionally accompanies graduation ceremonies, we will be requiring that students adhere to the following expectations:

 

Dress Attire is required.

Girls

  • Dress or dress pants
  •  Shoes - sandals, flats, or heels

Boys

  • Slacks (khakis are acceptable)
  • Collared shirt (dress shirt or 3-button)
  • Shoes - loafers such as Sperry's and Hey Dude's are acceptable

Items that are not permitted

  • Shorts or Jeans
  • Tennis Shoes, Combat Boots, or Flip-flops

Things To Consider

  •  Belts should accompany dress pants
  • Footwear should be comfortable for standing and walking in. Example: If a student is not accustomed to functional movement in heels, they should be avoided.
  • Gown must be zipped the entire ceremony.

Graduation Caps

  • Students are welcome to decorate their cap with the name of the college/university or military branch that they will be pursuing after graduation
  • No other quotes, messages, symbols, or organizations may be represented on the cap. No exceptions will be made.
  • All designs must be 2-Dimensional (no pompoms, beads, flowers, figurines, etc.)
  • A blank cap will be provided for students who fail to follow the guidelines above

Local Scholarships for Seniors

The Ponte Vedra Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will award a $500 scholarship at our meeting on May 7, 2024, to a deserving college-bound senior graduating from a St. Johns County high school in the spring of 2024. Students meeting the eligibility criteria are invited to apply.

 

Eligibility criteria consist of the following:

  • Student is enrolled in one of the following high schools in St. Johns County, Florida: Bartram Trail High School, Creekside High School, Nease High School, or Ponte Vedra High School.
  • Student exhibits good academic achievement and character.
  • Student has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better (where A is equal to 4.0)      during the entire high school enrollment period.
  • Student is a citizen of the United States.

Please note that our scholarship committee must receive the student’s application packet no later than March 31, 2024.



St. Augustine Elks Lodge Educational Trust Fund 2024 Scholarships

The applications in both .pdf and a Fillable Word format. Last year five $1000 Scholarships were awarded to Caroline Hamby, John Klatzkow, Cael Thompson and Celine Taylor from NHS.

 

This year there will be ten $1,000.00 scholarships available to qualifying seniors in St. Johns County. Applicants must attend or have attended a high school within St. Johns County, be a resident of St. Johns County, and have at least one parent that is a St. Johns County resident. Applications are due back no later than April 1, 2024.

 

Applicants are selected based on the overall excellence of the student, and include community service, extracurricular activities and financial need, as well as academic achievement. 



INK! has opened the Class of 2024 Senior Scholarship Application. 

  • The portal is available at https://apply.ink-stjohns.org
  • We are pleased to announce that our number of available scholarships for Class of 2024 continues to grow. We have 20+ scholarships available, with a total value in excess of $50,000.
  • Some are need based, some are merit based, and some have specific requirements for majors, high school attended, or university attending.
  • On the website, there is a narrative description about each scholarship and its requirements.
  •  Application deadline for all scholarships is March 23, 2024. 


Engineering Scholarship

SAME, Society of American Military Engineers Jacksonville Post, is awarding $2000 scholarships to high school students who will be enrolling in an engineering, construction, or architecture related program at a college or university this fall. Applications are due by March 29,2024.

The Brian Bourke Memorial Scholarship Application 2024

The Brian Bourke Scholarship will be awarded to Nease High School Seniors who are graduating in May 2024, have demonstrated good moral character, achieved success in the classroom, and have helped in their community. Brian Bourke was a NYC Police Detective who served the public and helped keep his community safe. After working over 20 years in the NYPD he decided to serve the Nease community as a Parking Lot Attendant and helped keep the students and staff safe as well as greet them with a friendly smile every day and sent them on their way to class with words of encouragement and positivity.

  • Essay- 400-500 word essay typed, include the following information:
  • Member of school community paragraph- academic achievements (GPA, ACT/SAT score), awards or certifications, clubs, your Nease experiences.
  • Member of local community paragraph- volunteer activities, jobs, service projects
  • Writing prompt response paragraph- Kindness is contagious. How can you spread encouragement and positivity into the world?

Rotary Club of Palm Valley

Every year, we offer a $2,000 scholarship to a Nease student who best exemplifies Service Above Self. The scholarship is in memorial of Jeff Hart - a beloved member of the community who did an enormous amount for the community youth - especially in the area of Rotary Youth Exchange.  The application will close April 15th and we’ll notify the winner of the results no later than May 13th.

Griffin Moody Scholarship Award Application – 2024

Griffin Moody was a former student at Nease, who tragically died in a car accident. His parents award one or more $2500 Griffin Moody Scholarships each year to Nease seniors who have demonstrated good moral character, achieved success in the classroom, participated in extra-curricular activities (either in school or outside of school), and have applied to attend either a traditional or technical college in the Summer or Fall of 2024. Applications are due by April 5th.


REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION:

  •  Resume – to include your academic achievements (GPA, ACT/SAT score, any awards or certificates achieved, etc.), and hardships you’ve had to overcome.
  •  Have you decided what college you’re attending? What do you intend to major in?
  •  Community Service – list all volunteer activities, and total number of service hours achieved.
  •  Letter of Reference – at least one letter of reference/recommendation from someone who is familiar with your character and is not related to you.
  • Essay – a 400-500 word essay, typed, using the prompt on the application.
