Meet one of our Founders....Sr. Mary Mardel | |

Sister Mary Mardel (known as "Be" by family and friends) was born in Seattle, WA on March 2, 1918. She grew up in Los Altos, CA and entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1937. She spent most of her religious life at the Schools of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco, where she served as Principal, Superior and later as Director of Schools. It was while Sister Mardel was Superior at the Convent of the Sacred Heart at El Cajon that she founded St. Madeleine Sophie Center in 1966, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of St. Madeleine Sophie. From 1972 - 1978 she served as Provincial of the Western Province of the Society of the Sacred Heart. In 2004 Sister Mardel retired to Oakwood in Atherton, CA, where she is archivist, a member of the Pastoral Team and Moderator of the Children of Mary in San Francisco.
Sr. Mardel will be honored at this year's 34th Annual Haute with Heart Fashion Show.
Thank you Sr. Mardel for all of your work for SMSC! |

Dear Friends,
All I can say about last night is, if you were not there, you missed a fun evening. The weather was perfect, the food delicious, and so much of it, the entertainment truly outstanding, and the door prizes too good to be true! St. Madeleine's was the perfect setting, and we were all in the mood for a good time. I'm pretty sure we had one!
Jean, Friends of East County Arts
