Special Announcement from Sinai Temple and Sinai Akiba Academy

Dear Sinai Temple Community,

We hope that you enjoyed a meaningful Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. As the 2023-24 school year winds down, we are delighted to share two exciting updates about the upcoming 2024-25 year.

Beginning July 1, 2024, our beloved Rabbi Avi Taff will transition into the role of School Rabbi for Sinai Akiba Academy. As the school’s spiritual leader, he will coordinate and help lead tefillah, oversee tikkun olam programming, and spearhead ECC-8th grade Jewish life. In partnership with Yael Mashbaum, Jewish Education Director, Rabbi Taff will foster strong Jewish identities and infuse derech eretz (kindness, empathy, and respect), neshama (soul) and ruach (spirit) into all that SAA does. Known for his unique warmth, Rabbi Taff models a love of Jewish practice, a commitment to Talmud Torah, and will provide rabbinic wisdom and support to all students, families, and faculty/staff.

Rabbi Taff will remain an integral member of the Sinai Temple clergy team and the community at-large. He will continue to lead community-wide holiday celebrations/services, will officiate at lifecycle events including funerals, weddings, b’nai mitzvah, etc., and will provide leadership and support to Sinai Temple’s Teen Center. Rabbi Taff’s door is open to all Temple members, and we are excited about this new iteration of his portfolio and the relationships he will deepen.

We are also eager to share that Rabbi Moe Howard, current Sinai Temple Rabbinic Intern, will assume the role of Religious School (STRS) Rabbi in 2024-25. Rabbi Moe studies at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies and knows (and loves) our STRS community. Rabbi Moe spent the past year getting to know STRS students and families, building bonds, and he even attended this year’s family Shabbaton. We have great confidence in Rabbi Moe and he is inspired and energized to lead Religious School students and families on their Jewish journeys.

Please join us in wishing Rabbi Taff and Rabbi Moe mazal tov!

The Sinai Temple-SAA partnership is stronger than ever and the entire Sinai Temple clergy team will continue to play an active role in the lives of both SAA and Religious School students. Whether it is teaching, celebrating holidays, leading Douglas Family ECC Mini Minyan, or simply popping into classrooms to say “hello,” their presence will be widely felt. We are committed to further bridging our community and beginning the school year as a united team!

As we look to this summer and the year ahead, there is so much in store for the Sinai community. The past seven months since October 7 have been tough for us all, but they have also proven time and time again the importance and impact of the strength of community. As we head into the summer, please know that our doors are always open, and we welcome you to visit, connect, and get involved in our kehillah kedoshah (sacred community).
