Manna Purchases 10 N. Cannon Ave. to Establish Innovative Online Market Hub

Manna on Main Street is excited to announce that on Wednesday, August 16, we purchased a 3,300-square-foot property at 10 N. Cannon Ave. in Lansdale Borough.

This purchase marks a historic moment in the life of Manna and our community: Over the coming months we will work to transform 10 N. Cannon Ave. into Manna's Online Market Hub (the Hub), with an anticipated opening in summer 2024.

The Hub is an innovative $1.27 million project that will dramatically expand Manna's provision of online ordering and delivery of groceries, allowing us to reach more households facing hunger. A rendering of the Hub is shown in the image above.

Establishing the Hub is a major component of Manna's 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, which is part of Manna's 10-year Campaign: A North Penn Where No One Is Hungry launched in May 2022. Our 10-year campaign — which at its core is about building a diverse, equitable, inclusive organization that increases access, dignity and community — seeks to double the number of households served by 2031.

The location of the Hub continues Manna's historical presence along Main Street in Lansdale. Since 2016 Manna has been based in North Penn Commons. Manna is not leaving North Penn Commons. The establishment of the Hub is an expansion of Manna as we work to serve more people more effectively. The Hub will be an inclusive environment, with ADA parking and a welcoming lobby and accessible restrooms.

Manna's Board of Directors has participated in the property acquisition process every step of the way. Their leadership and vision is invaluable.

To our entire community: Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and commitment to ending hunger in the North Penn region.

Sincerely,

Give Now to End Hunger

Why Create An Online Market Hub?

Manna’s Market, based in North Penn Commons, provides a dignified place for clients to access free groceries. However, the Market has outgrown its space in North Penn Commons. We cannot serve more people unless we expand into more space, which the Hub will provide.

The new Hub will mean Manna can:

  • Expand fulfillment of online orders of groceries.
  • Increase in-person grocery shopping hours at Manna’s Market in North Penn Commons.
  • Over time scale our delivery of groceries directly to homes in the greater North Penn region.

All of this will make Manna more immediately responsive to people’s emergency food needs.

In turn, the North Penn region will become one of the only places in Montgomery County with this kind of a sophisticated, inclusive, dignified emergency food system. We hope Manna’s pioneering system can be replicated in other communities within Montgomery County.

What Will The Hub Mean For Manna Clients?

Manna will relocate its entire online order fulfillment process to the Hub. The Hub will be a one-stop-shop where Manna staff assemble online orders for Manna clients to pick up.

In-person shopping hours will expand at Manna’s Market in North Penn Commons because that space will no longer be needed to fulfill online orders. We envision Manna’s Market significantly expanding its hours, more closely mirroring a traditional grocery store, rather than the two-hour, five days a week shopping times we currently provide.

In addition to ordering groceries online from mobile devices and home computers, kiosks for ordering inside the Hub will be available to households with limited access to digital devices and those who need assistance with ordering. The Hub’s location just off of Main Street in the heart of Lansdale is within walking distance of many households living in poverty, is accessible by public transportation, and has nearby street parking.

The Hub will transform Manna to be immediately responsive to households with emergency food needs. Over time we will scale our food delivery services from the Hub directly to people’s homes, literally meeting people where they’re at. In this way,we are responding to a need expressed to Manna by the people we serve.

Funding For The Hub

To help with the purchase of 10 N. Cannon Ave., Manna received a $250,000 state grant secured by State Senator Maria Collett, and negotiated a mortgage with favorable terms through Harleysville Bank.

Donations from generous Manna supporters and a low-interest loan from HealthSpark Foundation will make possible the necessary renovations to the property.
