Dear Jill,

September is one of the best times of the year at the farm! Our participants and horses are enjoying the cooler temperatures during our Fall Session, and we have loved sharing in the joy of their accomplishments as they work hard with their horses and volunteers to achieve their goals. There is always something to celebrate with nearly 100 children and adults with disabilities and hardship visiting Southern Reins each week. This month we are delighted to welcome our new Director of Development to the team, and have been busy planning our signature fall fundraiser, the 2nd Annual Southern Supper, on November 9 at the illustrious Memphis Hunt & Polo Club.

Below are just a few September highlights and future happenings at Southern Reins.

2nd Annual Southern Supper

Join us for the 2nd Annual Southern Supper on Thursday, November 9 for a special evening that blends the charm of Southern hospitality with our mission to change lives. Proudly presented by ContractingPRO, gather with family, friends, and clients to share cocktail hour with live music by Bonfire Orchestra, followed by a savory Southern meal served family style at the historic and exclusive Memphis Hunt & Polo Club.

Event sponsorships and individual tickets are currently available. Join us at the table for an unforgettable evening under the stars to make miracles possible through the healing power of horses for children and adults with disabilities throughout our community.

Welcome Kanette Keough

Director of Development

Please join us in welcoming Southern Reins' new Director of Development,

Kanette Keough!

Kanette is a proud graduate of Collierville High School, and she furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Among Kanette's favorite childhood memories are the days spent riding across Collierville on her Appaloosa quarter horse, Swanee. Throughout her professional journey, Kanette has taken on many diverse roles, from owning a successful business to serving as the Vice President of Marketing for The Orpheum Theatre, the President of the Collierville Chamber, and the Executive Director of the West TN Home Builders Association. Beyond her professional pursuits, she has served on various community boards and councils.

Family remains at the heart of Kanette's world. She cherishes every moment spent with her four wonderful children: KellyeAnn, Hanna, Jason, and Haley, and often finds joy in the lively escapades of her beloved Border Collie, Shep.

Pony Pals Visit to

The Farms At Bailey Station

Our wonderful therapy pony, Clyde, thoroughly enjoyed his Pony Pals visit to The Farms at Bailey Station in Collierville last week! He loved getting to meet all of their residents and making so many new friends. Our Pony Pals program makes equine interactions possible to spark joy, positive memories, and comfort for those who cannot visit the farm. We hope to see you again soon!

Rhodes College Involvement Fair

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Meredith, and Rhodes College Bonner Scholar and Southern Reins' volunteer, Bailey, had a great time at the Rhodes Involvement Fair this month! Students were able to learn about Southern Reins' mission and opportunities to volunteer to make a difference in our community.

A special thank you to Rhodes College for hosting us!

Fueling the World

Valero Lends a Hand at the Farm

We were delighted to welcome volunteers from Valero for a work group day to help with special projects around the farm. In 2022, Valero employees volunteered in their communities donating more than 117,000 hours of service.

Thank you for all your hard work! We look forward to your next visit.

Welcome Back TigerLIFE

Our friends at Memphis TigerLIFE began their Fall internship, and we are so grateful to have their help keeping our facilities looking their very best. Twice a week this dedicated group works at the farm to learn job skills that help them succeed in obtaining and maintaining employment.
