Doctoral students awarded memorial scholarship


Georgia Southern University’s Bryan Deever Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sequaya Chapman and Marshall Parrent during the Curriculum Studies Doctoral Program Orientation on April 22. Each student was awarded $880 toward tuition for their Ed.D. in Curriculum Studies.

Students honored during spring commencement ceremonies


College of Education graduates were recognized during commencement ceremonies at Statesboro's Allen E. Paulson Stadium on May 10 and Savannah's EnMarket Arena on May 13. Statesboro graduates heard from H.E. Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, and Savannah graduates heard from the Honorable Van R. Johnson II, mayor of Savannah.

Two College of Education professors at Georgia Southern University earned accolades at the 2023 American Educational Research Association (AERA) meeting, which serves as the world's largest annual gathering of education researchers and a showcase for groundbreaking, innovative studies in an array of areas.

Students deployed as literacy tutors


This June, 62 college students provided literacy tutoring for elementary school summer learning programs in Statesboro and Savannah. The tutors worked with small groups of students for four weeks to prevent summer learning loss and improve student attitudes about reading.

Georgia Southern’s College of Education (COE) is making sure that Sarah Mills Hodge Elementary School (Hodge) starts school with confidence this fall. Ten teachers from the Savannah school have been selected to participate in custom, grant-funded training and curriculum development this summer.
