Come join us and experience Cuba from both land and sea!
Flotillas really are the best of both worlds: all the freedom of a bareboat charter combined with the comfort, security, and camaraderie of group travel.

Diversity in Sailing
By Capt. David Damm

Did you watch the America's Cup?  Yes, I know USA lost, but still... wow!  Unlimited budgets with the best designers creating the most advanced sailing vessels ever produced and being sailed by the best of the best sailors; what an amazing spectacle!  Now cut the scene to the Kemah channel, where just yesterday I watched a gaggle of square bowed "Optimist" dinghies skippered by 10 year old, salty pups heading out to compete on the bay.

I am personally not that competitive, at least not against other boats. Turning landlubbers into sailors brings me great satisfaction.  Then there's the challenge of route and weather planning, provisioning, and navigating blue water ocean passages, that's pretty cool too.

Many people enjoy day-sailing on the bay with no thoughts of racing or sailing off into the sunset, while others live for the cruising lifestyle and exotic anchorages in far-off places.

Stick around awhile and you will experience all of Mother Nature's moods from becalmed flat water, to the joy of beam reaching in a fresh breeze, to the frothing angry wrath of an offshore gale.

Here's where I'm going with this: It's this diversity of experience that I find amazing about the sport of sailing.  There's something for everyone and always something new to learn.  Every voyage, short or long has its own character shaped by the personalities on board, the quirks of the vessel, and the weather.

So my question is: what kind of sailor are YOU?  What blows YOUR hair back?  Maybe it IS bashing white knuckled around the marks; rail in the water a boat length from the competition?  How about drifting along in a slight breeze, steering with your toes and listening to Jimmy or Zac on the stereo?  Let's try a chartered Catamaran in the Caribbean, or a trip to Cuba.  Are you up for a 200 mile blue water passage?

I'm not saying you have to choose just one aspect of the sport.  I'm suggesting that maybe you try as many as you can fit in and figure out which ones fit you best.

Down here at South Coast Sailing  Adventures we specialize in offering  diversity of experience and we can get you involved in any aspect of the sport... well, except for an America's Cup crew slot, but, Captain Lucy has a couple of years before the next one, so maybe if we show enough interest...

I'm just sayin...

C'mon down! Let's go sailing, the way you want to.

A Howling Good Time
October 4-11, 2017
Founded in 1987, the annual Harvest Moon Regatta event has grown from just under 20 boats to over 200.  The 150-nautical mile race begins at the Flagship Hotel Pier in Galveston and follows the Texas coast to Port Aransas over the course of 2 days and 2 nights, when the night sky is dominated by the beautiful harvest moon.  It's the perfect opportunity to gain offshore sailing experience or add to your sailing certifications.

We are also offering ASA 103/104 Combo (Basic Coastal Cruising & Bareboat Chartering) and ASA 106 (Advanced Coastal Cruising) during this event!
