Distributor Spotlight
Jeff Burford, Metric Storage Systems
Metric Storage Systems has been in business since 1973, currently employing over 50 people at their new Brampton, Ontario office.
Metric is a supplier of packaging and storage supplies, including shelving, racking, and material handling equipment.
Jeff Burford, Sales Manager for Metric Storage Systems says one of his main objectives is to "motivate his sales force." He assists his sales team with quoting, sales presentations, and job measurements. "They sell it, I make it work. It's all about teamwork".
Jeff has been working with Soper's SoftWall Solutions for over 10 years on industrial and automotive applications. If a client has issues with anything from noise, heat, dust migration or enclosures, Jeff and his sales team always look to Soper's.
"They offer cost effective enclosure and partitioning solutions for our clients without the commitment of a permanent hard wall. They are even retractable".
The sales team at Metric worked closely with Soper's Canadian Sales Manager, Alex Gaal, on a SoftWall Solution for NuStef Foods.
Rather than air conditioning the entire facility, Metric and Soper's worked together to provide a 3-sided SoftWall Partition system to enclose their food packaging area. This enabled NuStef to air-condition only this specific area, thus enabling them to significantly reduce energy consumption and costs.

The floor to ceiling SoftWall Partition system measures 72 feet long by 50 feet deep by 18 feet high. The partition includes four access points/strip curtain doors, enabling easy passage through the partition, and a clear PVC window to produce an "open" work environment.
Soper's manufactured the large fabric wall using 15 oz vinyl coated polyester, a material that meets the NFPA 701 and Class A (ASTM E-84) fire rating.

Solution Showcase
A North American steel fabricator determined that air born dust migration was causing problems with respect to maintaining their paint finish quality specifications. They began to look for ideas to flexibly isolate their paint bay from the general fabrication area. They were also looking for ways to inhibit paint fumes travelling into other areas of the facility.
In consultation with a Soper's Distributor they were introduced to the concept of a SoftWall Partitioning Solution.

After a series of plant consultations and the exchange of preliminary CAD drawings with Soper's a final design was developed. One partition measuring 75' wide and 20' in height retracts manually. Two other powered partitions were designed to be permanently attached to decommissioned beam cranes which are now "repurposed" to retract and relocate the curtains.
The creation of a flexible paint bay made it possible to easily increase and decrease the size of the bay depending on the size and number of steel members to be painted. This was accomplished through the installation of three transportable partition systems designed to move across the building. They are repositioned (raised and lowered) in the exact locations required.
The result is an extremely flexible solution that enables the creation of a variety of painting areas minimizing the need to reposition large structural beams.
Soper's is a leading manufacturer of SoftWall Enclosures, Partitions, and Curtains custom-designed to solve common industrial and warehousing problems such as dust, fumes, noise, temperature, odour, cross-contamination, privacy, over-spray, and welding flash.

Do you have a noise problem?
Before noise becomes a health and safety issue in your workplace, it can have a costly impact on productivity and efficiency.
Consider a Soper's SoftWall Noise Enclosure
"Block and Absorb" is the solution. The SoftWall specialists at Soper's can help you simplify a complex problem and identify a cost-effective, step-by-step solution to your noise control challenges.
Whether it is ambient noise or a project that involves controlling a specific sound source, Soper's will deliver a solution.
There are some key principles in the Soper's commitment to deliver a high value-added solution: Keep it simple; keep it practical; keep it efficient and above all, keep it cost-effective!
Case Study
A medical laboratory wanted to minimize the sound created by the centrifuges located on the desks of their lab technicians. For this application a SoftWall enclosure, made from BQ2 composite absorber fabric was constructed, with a ClearFlex panel for ease of access.
BQ2 combines a quilted absorber with a mass-loaded vinyl barrier to produce a reasonably thin, flexible, lightweight, acoustical product that has excellent mechanical (strength) properties while providing a high sound absorption rating.
This Soper's Solution was both immediate and measurable with no down-time to the client and a seamless interface with existing operations.

Alex Gaal, Sales Manager Canada
If you were to ask Alex Gaal what sets Soper's apart in the market place, he would quickly reply, "We're a solutions company. We are able to look at almost any in-plant environmental problem and develop a custom-designed SoftWall solution that is typically less expensive and more flexible than any rigid wall solution."
Alex's science degree and professional background in industrial fabric sales and distribution is what led him to a position with Soper's in 2001 as Distribution Manager. His role has since evolved to National Sales Manager of Canada. He works closely to support and advise the Canadian Distributor Network on the unique Soper's SoftWall concepts.
Travelling to job sites and providing sales training and support to his Canadian Network keeps the work interesting. "Every job is different. We are constantly developing new ways to solve specific in-plant problems, whether it's related to noise, dust, fumes, cross-contamination, privacy, or welding-flash."
When he's not travelling or working at his drawing board, Alex enjoys time spent with his family, which now includes two grandchildren.
