From the Director of Education

Dear Mountain Song Families,

As we prepare to step into a new school year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. The recent delay in our start date due to COVID is a reminder that, even now, we continue to navigate uncertain times together. Your patience and support for our students, staff, and community are truly appreciated.

I am filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. We are returning stronger, more connected, and more committed than ever to providing a joyful, enriching, and nurturing environment for our students.

This year, we look forward to rekindling our shared traditions, embracing new opportunities, and witnessing our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our teachers, staff, and volunteers have been working tirelessly to prepare a warm, welcoming space that will help every student feel seen, valued, and inspired to learn.

Thank you again for your understanding and for being a vital part of what makes Mountain Song so special.

I can’t wait to see the joy, growth, and creativity that will blossom throughout the year. Here’s to a bright and promising school year ahead!

Warm regards,

Nate Mylin, M.S. Ed.

Director of Education/Principal

Rose Ceremony & Welcome Back Breakfast

Tuesday, August 26th at 8:30 a.m.

The Rose Ceremony is a cherished tradition in Waldorf-inspired schools that symbolizes the welcoming of new first graders by the older students. During the ceremony, our eighth graders present a rose to each first grader, representing the beginning of their educational journey. This beautiful gesture highlights the sense of community and continuity that is central to Waldorf education, fostering connections between the youngest and oldest students as they embark on their respective paths.

On the first day of school for our 1st-8th graders, we will host our ceremony outside, in front of the school. Grown-ups are welcome to attend, especially those of our first and 8th graders!

The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last for 30-45 minutes, followed by our Back to School Breakfast in the gym for grown-ups, hosted by Mr. Nate Mylin, our Director of Education & Mr. Karl Johnson, our Pedagogical Director.

Natter With Nate

Thursday, August 29 at 8:15 a.m.

Let's hear your thoughts, hopes, and dreams for MSCS! We're kicking off our monthly "Natter with Nate" on Thursday, August 29 at 8:15 a.m. right after drop off near the curved wall at the front of the school (weather permitting).

If that timing doesn't work for you, you're welcome to email Mr. Nate Mylin at nmylin@mountainsongschool.org or wait to share them at our next Natter which will be hosted at a time after school.

MSCS Receives Sprouts Grant!

We are thrilled to announce that Mountain Song is the recipient of a Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation grant for $10,000 to make improvements in our school garden! The bulk of these funds will be used to purchase a high tunnel (similar to the one pictured) that will allow us to extend our growing season, and potentially even grow crops year round. We'd like to extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Adam for making this happen for our school!

Kindergarten Spots Available

We have a few spots in our play-based Kindergarten available this school year!

If you know a family who belongs here at Mountain Song, please spread the word! You can learn more about our Kindergarten curriculum and enroll here!

Drop-Off Procedures

Let's have a safe return to school! Click on the video above to see Mr. Nate Mylin explain our drop-off procedures.

  • Playgrounds are not supervised before school begins.
  • No parking directly around the perimeter of the school (that’s reserved for the kiss and go lane).
  • Please keep an eye out for instructions from your teacher regarding drop-off and pick up
  • Make sure your child is ready to hop out as soon as you stop—backpacks on, and ready to go!
  • Stay off your phone and keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially little ones who might be below your line of sight.

Attendance Policy

In order for students to succeed in school, it is of utmost importance that they regularly attend. Students benefit the most when they can participate in the daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms of the year. Please complete the Daily Attendance Form or call the office by 9:30 if your child will be absent or tardy.

By arriving on time, children learn reliability and respect for others while also being able to orient themselves to each new day’s activities. We ask parents to partner with the school in ensuring consistent and punctual attendance by doing the following

  • Ensure your child arrives and is picked up on time each day. Our doors open at 8 a.m.
  • Schedule routine medical and dental appointments after school hours when possible.
  • Schedule family vacations during the school’s vacation days.

As a public charter school in Colorado, we are required to track students that are “Habitually Truant” (4 unexcused absences in one month or 10 in one school year) and/or “Chronically Absent” (absent 10% or more of the school year. A student who averages 2 absences/month - excused or unexcused - is at risk of this)
