EDPMA ADVOCATES

5-Question Quick Hit Survey

EDPMA needs your help to support our advocacy efforts to fix the No Surprises Act (NSA) by completing this 5-question Quick Hit survey.

This survey will collect data on:

  • Reimbursement Changes in 2023: Since the NSA was implemented, physician groups experienced a 39% reduction in OON physician reimbursement (net collections per ED visit) in 2023 compared to 2022. This reduction affects patient care quality amid clinical workforce shortages and workplace strain.
  • Impact on Access to Care: EDPMA fully supports the NSA’s goal of protecting patients from unanticipated medical expenses due to out-of-network care. Emergency physicians must be fairly compensated for services delivered, especially under EMTALA.
  • Civil Monetary Penalties: EDPMA advocates for Civil Monetary Penalties and treble damages when non-prevailing parties fail to pay IDRE determinations promptly. Correct and timely payments are crucial to address health plan non-compliance.
  • Patient Cost Sharing IssueHealth plans changing patient cost sharing after losing an IDRE determination is a serious concern.

We need YOUR HELP to gather essential data for advocacy efforts to protect physician reimbursement.

Register: Value-Based Contracting: From Concept to Reality

The EDPMA Virtual Workshop: Value-Based Contracting - From Concepts to Reality is an interactive virtual workshop that provides background, information, and tools to empower your group’s value-based journey.

It’s designed to help emergency medicine practices understand and implement value-based models. Here are the key points:

  • Background: Health care entities have been transforming fee-for-service payment into value-based models of care. However, emergency medicine practices have not been proportionately included in these efforts, despite substantial opportunities to impact quality, outcomes, and cost.
  • Program Types: Value-based models can take various forms, with different levels of risk, opportunity, required investments, and clinical/operational demands.
  • Common Themes and Metrics: Some emergency medicine practices have successfully deployed value-based models. Common themes include quality measures, avoidable hospitalizations, reducing ED bounce-backs, and addressing variation in clinical decision-making.

Workshop Faculty

Randy Pilgrim, MD, FACEP, FAAFP: Provides a brief review of Value-Based Care (VBC) concepts for emergency medicine.

Lisa Mauer, MD: Describes a process to activate relationships and local market awareness into profitable, winning contracts.

Jesse Pines, MD: Covers measurement, benchmarking, and using data analytics to improve VBC outcomes.
