Keeping Tabs on Your Consumption: All About
KYZ - Pulse Metering
KYZ pulse metering is a technique used to report, in near real time, electric use by external devices and systems. It relies on a meter to generate a signal, called a pulse, each time a specific amount of electricity flows by. These meters are widely used in both commercial and industrial settings for energy monitoring and management.
How it Works
KYZ pulse meters monitor the energy flow. They are designed to produce a pulse each time a predetermined amount of energy passes the meter, either in watt-hours (Wh) or kilowatt-hours (kWh). The number of pulses generated is directly proportional to the amount of electricity consumed.
There are Two Things You Can Do with KYZ Pulses:
1) Count them for recording kWh consumption (energy use)
2) Time them for kW demand - This is where the $$$ is!
Benefits of Pulse Metering
Simple: Equipment is easy to install, typically requiring minimal electrical wiring modifications for installation.
Universal: Pulses are virtually compatible with every application.
Applications
Demand Response Programs: They can be used to participate in demand response programs, where consumers are rewarded for reducing their electricity use during peak periods.
Demand Control & Energy Management Systems: Pulses are used by energy management and building automation systems to control energy use in real time and identify areas for improvement.
