Hello Soldotna,
The Chamber team stopped by the Soldotna City Council meeting on Wednesday, where Mayor Whitney recognized Anne and Patty for their many years of service working at the Soldotna Visitor Center. They have welcomed and assisted hundreds of thousands of visitors to Soldotna, leaving them with a positive impression of our city.
We are working to make our 2025 Soldotna Visitor Guide even better this year. All members are included in the directory, but check out all the fantastic advertising opportunities we offer to our members!
Cheers!

The Soldotna Chamber is ready to celebrate THIRTY YEARS of hosting our annual Pie Auction fundraiser! The event will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 and this year we’re looking back with a “Time Machine” theme! The evening will include a live auction and a variety of raffles & games, raising funds for our community events & programs. Those include Frozen RiverFest, Soldotna Progress Days, the Levitt AMP Soldotna Music Series & many more. This annual fundraiser also finances the Chamber’s Scholarship Program in its entirety. Over the past 30 years, with the help of our generous membership, the Soldotna Chamber has awarded $372,800 in scholarships to students in the greater Soldotna area.
We are requesting donations from local businesses to include in the auction and raffles. Guests are always interested in bidding for vacations, behind-the-scenes experiences, and tickets to local events. Our guests also love to bid on restaurant gift cards, fishing trips, unique Alaskan items, hotel/lodge stays, as well as other items that are unique to our area.
We truly appreciate your consideration in regard to a contribution. Each donor will be acknowledged with the donated item on auction night, as well as in the Chamber’s weekly e-newsletter, on the Chamber’s social media pages and printed in local publications. Donations will also be printed in the auction’s program. This event is a wonderful opportunity for you to give back and get recognition for it! Just flip this page over and fill out the form, or give us a call, we would love to hear from you!

Good afternoon,
I am sure you have many students in your school who you recognize need assistance with some of the more necessities to help make the school year a success for them. Our club wants to extend a helping hand in some areas that you may not have known we can offer assistance in.
1. We offer free vision screening with our Plus Optix RX digital handheld computer. This device can better assist in determining if a child needs to be referred to an eye doctor for glasses. We have volunteers trained and already approved on the KPBSD website to come in and offer this service to your school nurses. This is not an acuity test but can easily detect vison disorders and media opacities.
2. We can help any student in your school who doesn’t have the ability to pay for an eye exam with financial assistance. Our club will also help pay for glasses, if they are determined to be needed by the optician.
3. School Supplies! We are holding our first ever “Car bashing event” Saturday, August 24th and September 7th. All funds raised during this event will be used to purchase school supplies for our local elementary schools that our club serves. Those schools are Sterling Elementary, K-Beach Elementary, Tustumena Elementary, Soldotna Elementary, Redoubt Elementary, and Soldotna Montessori. We have supported schools that are not listed above, we would just need to be made aware of their needs.
Does your school have a closet for children that need additional support by having access to school supplies? We would like to partner with the above-mentioned schools to help bridge the gap for underserved kids in our community.
4. Lastly, our club offers a “Christmas Kindness” program during the month of December. We sponsor one (1) family from each of the schools in our area and provide Christmas presents, food (if needed), or help pay of electricity or gas bills. We look want to give Christmas to families who have extreme needs. This program works with the direct assistance of your school nurse or secretary. We will ask for your school to nominated family in need during the beginning of November. This will enable us to shop for those families during the good holiday sales. We can receive nominations up until the 10th of December.
Often when we shop for families that are in our “Christmas Kindness” program, we are purchasing basic items that a child needs (socks, underwear, winter clothes, and boots). However, we balance that with providing wants from their Christmas list and many times it is brought to our attention that the families are lacking food during the holidays, so we also fill their pantries. One family needed fuel for their generator, so we purchased fuel. Where you see a need, we try to step in and fill that need.
We are the Soldotna Lions Club, and we serve our community.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call.
My number is (907) 252- 6496.
Sincerely,
Sarah DesOrmeaux
Soldotna Lions Club President

SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK
\Governor Mike Dunleavy proclaimed last week to be Suicide Prevention Week in Alaska. If you're struggling, remember that help is always available, this week and any other week.
Suicide occurs in Alaska at twice the rate of other states, but together we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and asking for help. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, call or text 988 for support.
Your well-being matters, and it’s never too late to reach out.
Read the Governor's Proclamation: https://gov.alaska.gov/suicide-prevention-week-5/
