From Your Social Justice Committee

May 13, 2022

Hello Members and Friends of UU Miami.

We want to share with you some of what we are doing and invite you to join us in this amazing work.

We Are United March

Sunday, May 15th at 3: 00 p.m. at the Freedom Tower

We really hope you will join us at the We Are United March for a more unified and supportive Miami community. This march is to affirm the diverse cultures, religions, races, genders, and political affiliations in Miami and to join together to get to know and support one another. We will gather for the march at the base of Freedom Tower ( 600 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132) at 3:00 p.m. The speeches will begin at 3:30; the march is at 3:45 p.m. We will march to the Underline Prominade Stage where there will be music and speeches from some cultural and religious leaders of this community. The program will end at 6:00 p.m. Reverend Tom will be speaking at the Underline.

The Promenade Sound Stage at the Underline is located on SW 1st Avenue (Miami, FL 33130), right before crossing SW 8th street. Please use the nearby public parking lots at Brickell City Centre and Mary Brickell Village.

Roe v Wade

Many of us are wondering what to do about the possible Supreme Courts striking down Roe v Wade? Well, here are some things that you can do. You can read this press release that the UUA send out to this country about Roe v Wade.

You can sign this petition from Move On.org about Roe v Wade.

You can join UU the Vote (more on that in a moment). You can donate to Planned Parenthood of South, East, and North Florida or to NARAL.

You can listen to our recent Discussion with a Planned Parenthood organizer

These of some of the ideas that your Social Justice Committee offers.

UU the Vote

Unitarian Universalist are working to get out the vote for this Fall’s election. You can help by letter writing, phone calling, understanding the message to get out about the importance of this election. You can join UU the VoteSome of us have already joined and started writing letters to people all over the country encouraging them to vote.

Helping Returning Citizens through Chainless Change

After the discussion with the Director of Chainless Change, we began a conversation with him about how we could help his clients and their families. Right now, they need toiletries and suits/work clothes to help their clients prepare for job interviews. If you have suits or work clothes for men or women to interview for jobs that you can donate, please bring them to UU Miami. And you can put toiletries in the donation container in the breezeway.

Thanks for joining us in our Social Justice initiatives!
