Join our Team

Director of Public Works and Engineering

Works under the general supervision of the City Manager. Exercises supervision over all Public Works and Engineering Department staff, the City’s consultants, and contractors for engineering/construction projects and activities. Performs professional administrative work in the directing and overseeing of the Department’s functions such as roads, sidewalks, rights-of-ways and public buildings, beautification, and capital improvement projects.



Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police

The work of the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police involves assisting the Chief of Police in a wide range of high-level administrative assignments to ensure operational and administrative continuity and coordination among the divisions within the Police Department. Assignments are received from the Chief of Police in the form of broad instruction or general objectives. Exercises considerable independent judgement on all aspects of the position. Responsible for assisting the Chief of Police with the oversight and coordination of special projects and events conducted by the Police Department. Assists with strategic plans, data analysis, and research. May perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of the mission and goals of the department.

Town Center Ambassador

Assists in creating a vibrant Town Center community through hospitality services in the area. Works under the supervision of the Community Affairs Manager.


Certified/Lateral Police Officer

General police functions in the prevention of crime, protection of life and property, and apprehension of criminal offenders through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, and the maintenance of community order through the performance of numerous human services as well as providing general information and assistance to the public. 


Communications Officer

This position requires radio dispatching and clerical work operating City communication equipment and systems. The employee is responsible for making effective and efficient decisions based on established policies and procedures.


Lifeguard (Seasonal)

The City of South Miami, Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time seasonal Lifeguard position. Lifeguards monitor pool activities and are responsible for the supervision and safety of swimmers at the Murray Park Aquatic Center.


Recreation Aide (Seasonal)

The City of South Miami, Parks & Recreation Department is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time Recreation Aide. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor II, the Recreation Aide assists in opening and readying the facility for general use, conducting recreation activities, facility rentals, collects fees, reports safety needs, and interacts with the public regarding information requests.


Football Commissioner (Volunteer)

The City of South Miami Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking qualified applicants for the volunteer Football Commissioner position. Under the direction of the Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture or his designee, the Football Commissioner shall assist in the management and operations of the football program and is expected to enforce City and League rules during practices, games, and competitions.

The City of South Miami is seeking volunteers to work within the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department, as well as volunteers seeking administrative opportunities in City Hall.
