SoMi begins work on new sidewalks to improve safety

The City of South Miami has begun work on a new sidewalk to improve pedestrian safety along a busy thoroughfare.

The new walkway is going in along Manor Lane from the 6300 block down to the intersection of SW 79th Street and SW 66th Avenue. It will continue from that intersection south to the corner of SW 66th Avenue and SW 80th Street.

The project is just one of many capital improvement projects underway across the city and is part of the city's ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and safety.

EV chargers coming to SoMi city garage

As part of SoMi's ongoing promise to be environmentally responsible, the city is partnering with FPL to install new EV chargers in the city's parking garage.

Four EV charging spaces will be installed at the garage entrance.

The chargers will be funded by FPL as part of the utilities effort to encourage EV usage.

Budget hearings set for Sept.

The city will discuss next year's budget during two public hearings next month.

The hearings will be Sept. 6th and Sept. 21st in City Hall. Start times will be 6:00pm.

The SoMi City Commission has already voted to ensure a property tax rate reduction will be part of next year's budget.

The budget that is expected to be approved on September 21st will go into effect October 1st.

Keep an eye out for new landscaping, new trees, and more

We're getting greener every day! If you find yourself along SW 84th Street, you'll soon see new landscaping and new trees between 57th Avenue and 58th Avenue.

Meanwhile, we're also making needed repairs to areas of the sidewalks on both SW 73rd Street and 74th Street in SoMi's Hometown District.
