Hear Our Voices, The Embracing Autism Evening

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming event, Embracing Autism, Hear Our Voices Evening, on March 26th at River Oaks Country Club. Sponsorship opportunities are available now and tables are selling fast.

Please join us as we come together with our friends and community to honor Dr. Peter Hotez, our Medical Honoree, and Amy Pierce, our Community Advocate Honoree. Additionally, we will be featuring special entertainment- singer songwriters Brice Long, Phillip White, and Marla Cannon-Goodman. The event will be hosted by Kaitlin Monte from Fox 26 with general reception beginning at 6:30pm and the program beginning at 7:00pm. Reserve your table today!
Welcome Chief Development Officer, Valerie Garate Ramirez

We are thrilled to announce that Valerie Ramirez will be joining Avondale House as our new Chief Development Officer.  

Valerie has experience working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector for 8+ years. Valerie began her nonprofit career in 2014 as an Events and Fundraising Coordinator at a cancer center in the Rio Grande Valley. In 2015, she moved to Houston and served as the Director of Communications and External Operations for Kids’ Meals, Inc. Following Kids’ Meals, she served as the Director of Development for CanCare, Inc. Prior to Avondale House, Valerie served as a Senior Consultant for Trevino Consulting Group. As a senior consultant, she provided assistance to client organizations in all aspects of philanthropic growth including development of strategic fundraising plans, campaign management and implementation, database management, and annual fund campaigns.

Valerie has diverse experience in fundraising, event planning, communications, program development, foundation and corporate relationship building, and volunteer engagement. She has her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Texas-Pan American, a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Texas A&M University, and a Masters in Nonprofit Management from the University of Houston-Downtown.

Outside of work, Valerie enjoys volunteering with local nonprofit organizations and serves as President Elect on the Board of Directors for Latin Women’s Initiative, a nonprofit that is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Latin women and children. She is on the Advisory Board for Impact100 Houston and is a member of the Junior League of Houston and Association of Fundraising Professionals. 
Community Based Instruction

Avondale House students had a blast at their Community Based Instruction (CBI) outing last week. The group went to Raising Cane's to practice ordering food, eating in a public setting, and socializing. Thank you to the Raising Cane’s team for their accommodation and hospitality!
Avondale House Volunteer Opportunity

Our next event is coming up on Saturday, March 26th – it’s our annual Embracing Autism event, but this year we are hosting it on a weekend and in the evening!

Embracing Autism Event: Hear our Voices

Saturday, March 26th in the evening

River Oaks Country Club
600 River Oaks Blvd, Houston, TX 77019
Volunteer Details: 

Shift 1: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Prepping the event space: setting up tables, placing signage

Shift 2: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Event shift: helping with check in if needed.
*Evening volunteers will have the option to sit at a table during the event. Avondale House will provide dinner in event room. 

We would love to have you both shifts, but if you can only make it to one, that is fine, too!
Team Member of the Month: Steven Bradbury
Steven Bradbury is Avondale's Team Member of the Month. Steven is always eager to learn more about client care and has accompanied the clients to medical appointments. He has terrific rapport with the residents and staff alike. His willingness to extend and enrich the residents in his care is a terrific thing to see. Avondale House is grateful for Steven's hard work and commitment to the residential program.
