EARTH DAY 50 YEARS AGO
AND TODAY!

"Our Earth does not need saving, we do. And we must save ourselves."
Nadine Clopton
Every year on April 22, people around the planet celebrate Earth Day, the annual anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. It's been over 50 years since this movement began. Do you remember what the world was like back then?

I live in Michigan about 45 miles north of Detroit, and I still remember that back in 1969, the Rouge River was so polluted that it literally burst into flames. This was a result of over 150 years of the industrial revolution gone wild with no restrictions.

Back then Americans were driving massive automobiles while industries belched out smoke and sludge without fear. I remember driving downtown to Detroit with a continual haze of smog hanging over the city. People just thought, "That's the way it is." But not everyone was so complacent. People around the country were becoming fed up, and something needed to happen that would catch their attention in a big way.
7 STEPS TO TRANSFORM APATHY INTO ACTION ON EARTH DAY
By Nadine Clopton, SWT Guest

What if we didn’t have to fight against climate change? Fighting is exhausting. By choosing to look through the positive lens of our collective healing, there is an endless wellspring through which we can resource energy to not only take action, but to sustain it.

What if, instead of fighting… we focused on healing? On balancing? On remembering?

In mainstream narratives around climate change, we truly do not give Mother Earth enough credit for the masterful balancing act she has cultivated over billions of years.

REGENERATIVE HEALTHCARE: LINKING SOIL HEALTH & HUMAN HEALTH
By Nadine Clopton, SWT Guest

Healthcare and agriculture, while inextricably linked, have sat in separate siloes for far too long.

Both sectors share a common set of challenges— the pervasive use of antibiotics and other synthetic inputs, a symptoms-based approach to addressing problems, and disconnection from being part of a much greater whole.

Yet many solutions to their shared challenges are also held in common— focusing on promoting biodiversity in both the soil and gut microbiomes, taking a root-cause approach, and looking at an individual or a farm as part of a much greater whole.

TOILET PAPER CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE ENVIRONMENT

You may not realize it, but the toilet paper in your bathroom likely comes from some of the most important—and threatened—forests in the world. In fact, Procter & Gamble is driving the devastation of one of the last great forests on earth to produce Charmin —made out of 100 percent virgin forest fiber.

Learn how the toilet paper you choose can make a difference from The National Resources Defense Council!
