Economic Partnership Memes Amazon's "Two-Pizza" Rule
by Tom Finan, Executive Director,
Construction Forum STL

Much has been made of Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezo's "two pizza rule". Bezo won't call or participate in meetings where two pizzas wouldn't serve the entire gathering. He has applied that small, innovative team approach across Amazon's culture.

The St. Louis Economic Partnership, which is throwing the region's hat in the ring for Amazon's HQ2 has built a similar, tight-knit, innovative, risk-taking approach to bring business to the region, Janet Wilding, vice president for major projects at SLEDP said.

Which Cities are Well Positioned to Land Amazon's HQ2?
From The Brookings Institution: Amazon-the world's largest online retailer and fourth largest company as measured by market capitalization-is soliciting North American regions in a competitive selection process for a second corporate headquarters, or HQ2.

In the world of economic development-of which business attraction is a core function-bringing an Amazon headquarters to town is a huge deal, likely the most significant corporate decision in recent memory.

Construction Forum St. Louis BLOG
For St. Louis, the Defining Issue of Our Time
by Joe Reagan, President & CEO, St. Louis Regional Chamber  and Gisele Marcus, Executive Vice President, St. Louis Regional Chamber

We're reminded of a speech by Teddy Roosevelt, which was recently popularized by author Brene Brown: "The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena." It's our time for teamwork and action. It's not a time to be paralyzed by the fear of failing.

This is a critical time for St. Louis, and for metropolitan regions across the country. Economic development in this day and age is about developing equity and opportunity for all of our fellow citizens regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, who they love, or their station in life. True economic development depends on an "abundance mentality," a belief that with growth, everyone can succeed.
