This Sunday: Skokie’s Spring Greening

Skokie’s annual community recycling event, the Spring Greening, will take place this Sunday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., at Westfield Old Orchard (West Parking Lot). Recycle electronics, securely shred documents, and responsibly dispose of a wide variety of other items.

Avoid the rush: Wait times are often greatly reduced after 11 a.m.

Can’t make it? Visit the SWANCC website for more recycling events.

Skokie’s Celestial Celebration

Hundreds of Skokie community members gathered on the Village Green yesterday afternoon to enjoy an out-of-this-world experience. Check out photos of the solar eclipse celebration on the Village’s Instagram and Facebook (and follow us while you’re there!).

Shout out: Thanks to the Skokie Public Library for organizing the event and outfitting thousands of community members with much-needed eye protection.

Spare spectacles? Don't throw away your solar eclipse glasses! Instead, bring them to the front desk of Village Hall before April 19 to be sent to Astronomers Without Borders for distribution to educators and students throughout the world!

Temporary Compost Site Added at Timber Ridge Park

The Village, in partnership with the Skokie Park District, is hosting a temporary additional food scrap compost site at Timber Ridge Park, located at Lawndale Avenue and Davis Street, from April 11 through May 4.

Not accepted: Plastic bags, deli containers, and other containers are NOT allowed in compost bins.

More locations: The Village offers nine other free composting sites throughout Skokie.
