BATON ROUGE, LA – This week, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) SkillsUSA Louisiana College and Post-Secondary Association announced an opportunity for LCTCS colleges faculty and staff along with business and industry to serve as members of the official state conference planning committee.

The committee is in need of individuals who have experience in the following areas:

  • AV Technology and Communications
  • Architecture and Construction
  • Health Sciences
  • Hospitality and Tourism
  • Human Services
  • Information Technology
  • Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security

Committee members will work alongside the state association's executive director, conference management team, and LCTCS staff to ensure the successful planning and implementation of the 2023 state leadership and skills conference.

The committee will be tasked with scheduling competitions, securing supplies and equipment, and planning the scope of competitions. Additionally, they will be responsible for identifying individuals to serve as technical leads which lead competitions, judges who score competitors according to industry standards, and prizes and scholarships for medalists, donors, and in-kind sponsors.

An official list of all competitions that will be offered at the 2023 state conference can be found at the bottom of the page.

The state leadership and skills conference committee will meet bi-weekly beginning in the spring to work on conference logistics. LCTCS will begin to review applications the week of November 7 and make an official selection of committee members by November 16.

Dr. Damian Glover, executive director of SkillsUSA Louisiana College/Post-Secondary expressed the importance of a diverse group to lead the state's largest collegiate workforce competition and exhibition.

"In 2023, we will begin a new era of our state SkillsUSA competition as we move to a state-of-the-art facility. This move will allow Louisiana to develop a similar atmosphere to the national conference while also providing ample space to continue to grow our competition offerings," Dr. Glover stated. "The committee will help guide the association's conference efforts by reaching businesses and industries from coast to coast while also ensuring our conference experience is effective, efficient, and world-class. These individuals are teaching our students in the classroom and leading efforts to meet the demands of the Louisiana workforce. We are in need of them during this planning process."

The application process is open to anyone with prior or current experience in any of the fields listed above. All questions regarding the committee must be directed to Dr. Damian Glover, by emailing damianglover@lctcs.edu.

All interested individuals must complete a formal application, which can be found here.
