10th Annual Rites of Passage Celebration

Sisters of Nia proudly held our 10th Annual Rites of Passage Celebration in June. This event marks the completion of a transformative 3-year journey for nine amazing girls. To participate in the celebration and be considered Sisters of Nia alumnae, each participant successfully completed eight required rites of passage tasks. During the celebration, the girls eloquently shared how the ATL Black History/HBCU tour and the overall program positively impacted their lives. Parents also expressed heartfelt adoration and pride for their daughters, honoring their growth and achievements.

3rd Annual Scholarship Awards Reception

In June, Sisters of Nia proudly hosted our 3rd Annual Scholarship Awards Reception at the Dante Event Center. Thirty-seven (37) outstanding young women were awarded a total of $22,500 in scholarships. The event, attended by over 150 people, featured a song and keynote address by two Nia alumnae, along with inspiring spoken word performances by a Camp Nia alumna and a Nia facilitator.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors: SMUD, Golden 1 Credit Union, and Kaiser Permanente, as well as to our in-kind raffle donors: RC Willey, ACE Hardware Elk Grove, and the Sacramento Kings.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to our scholarship fund. It is our pleasure and honor to support these young women in pursuing education beyond their high school diplomas.

Camp Nia

Camp Nia is our two-week, full-day program for girls ages 11-14, complete with lunch and snacks. Rooted in Afrocentric principles, the camp cultivates self-esteem, self-confidence, self-control, self-expression, cultural awareness, and mindfulness through the performing arts. Participants choose two of four classes - vocals, dance, drama, and stage design - led by seasoned professionals in their respective fields. The two-week camp is focused on preparing for a culminating performance for the community.
