Washington Resiliency Award: Recognizing an employer that has shown resilience and determination overcoming difficult obstacles and demonstrates leadership carrying out initiatives addressing safety, community resiliency, or financial threats related to an emerging, immediate or long-term community crisis, while considering the varying needs of all residents of the region.

Winner: Virginia Mason Franciscan Health
Virginia Mason Franciscan Health was one of the first providers to offer free virtual urgent care during the pandemic, helping more than 13,000 patients. Ten triage centers tested more than 108,000 patients. And the company’s Benaroya Research Institute led to a clinical trial of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The company also supported several large-scale vaccination sites and community partnerships. Altogether, VMFH vaccinated more than 370,000 people.
Washington Advance Award: Recognizes a business that has had a significant cause-oriented impact in its sector and/or community and contributed to the advancement of the economy.

Winner: Columbia Bank
Columbia Bank did more than just offer small business loans with their Paycheck Protection Program money – they invented a way to pass kindness on to those who needed it most. This unique concept acts as a two-for-one relief plan – paying small businesses to provide services for those who were struggling in their communities. Examples include a plumber installing a new water heater for a women’s nonprofit shelter, to a sand and gravel supplier offering trail maintenance. NAIOP, the Commerical Real Estate Development Association, recently presented their annual awards highlighting businesses and organizations that have used creative approaches to land use, community support and more. Silverdale's St. Michael Medical Center Pavilion was named as a finalist in the Community Impact Development of the Year.

Silverdale Chamber members for nearly 20 years, the clinic was established in 1945 when Dr. Charles L. Salmon, Dr. Frank Rosendale and Dr. Kenneth P. Jackson came together and renamed their new practice, The Doctors Clinic, reflecting a group of doctors whose mission was to provide compassionate, quality healthcare to the local community.

Today, that tradition of excellent patient care lives strong throughout each of our seven clinic locations. Our providers, more than 80 healthcare professionals and 350 staff members, care for the people and communities throughout Kitsap County. Tribal Leaders Summit with Biden White House Sets the Stage for Historic Collaboration
Tribal leaders from around the United States joined top leaders from the Biden/Harris administration on Monday and Tuesday of last week to discuss wide ranging issues affecting Tribal nations and nation-to-nation collaboration.

Among the leaders to address the summit was Suquamish Chairman Leonard Forsman, who spoke on the urgency of responding to the climate crisis.

“We are in a crisis situation with our salmon runs and the rivers and streams that support them due to warming waters and increasing development pressures as this area grows.” Chairman Forsman noted. “Our spiritual cousins, the southern resident killer whales, are also under threat.”

Conference for Human Rights
Saturday, December 11, 2021, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Join the Kitsap County Council for Human Rights for the 31st Annual Conference for Human Rights that takes place virtually from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 11.

The conference is free but pre-registration is required. Go to to view the conference schedule and register. 
This year's event centers around "Calling the Circle for Restorative Justice," and looks at how restorative circles are used to build and restore relationships through equal opportunity, sharing and listening, and by providing every individual the opportunity to speak and be heard.

Multiple workshops and other sessions will also be offered on topics related to restorative practices and initiatives, compassionate listening, using data to promote equity, fostering a recovery friendly region, impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations and examining racism from public health and historical perspectives.

Bay Shore Drive NW will be closed from Bucklin Hill Road to Bay Side Professional Building (9479 and 9481 Bay Shore Drive). Intermittent road closures on Washington Avenue NW for Sewer/Stormwater/Road improvement project.

Crews are doing various maintenance activities at the locations listed below. Expect moderate delays between 5 and 10 minutes:
  • Old Frontier Road NW between Gustafson Road to Greaves Way (MO-WE)
  • Belfair Valley Road W between Wilkinson Road W and County Line (TH-FR)
  • Wembly Avenue NE between NE John Carlson Rd and NE Sheffield PL, including surrounding side streets (MO-FR)

DOH Launches WA Verify: State's New Digital COVID-19 Verification Record System
As the need for COVID-19 vaccine verification increases across the state, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) wants to ensure people are prepared and know how to prove their vaccination status when it is required. Vaccine verification options now include QR code functionality through WA Verify, the state’s new Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record system.

The Cascade Pygmy Goat Association invites the public to join them for a free community event at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, December 3rd through the 5th. The Dasher, Dancer, Prancer & Pygmies goat show is an annual tradition the club holds to educate the public about this gentle and easy to care for African goat breed. This year we will be offering photos with the goats for kids as well as yummy treats.
