AWB Provides Election Resources for Employers
Offers Endorsement to 45 Candidates
From the Association of Washington Business. The Silverdale Chamber does not endorse any candidate for elected office in the State of Washington and offers this simply as a resource to our members.

AWB has endorsed 45 incumbent members of the Washington State Legislature who are seeking reelection based on their voting record on issues of significance to employers. Read more at our 2022 Election Resources page.

Incumbents with an 80% or higher voting record with the association are automatically eligible for early endorsement. Additional endorsements of non-incumbent candidates and candidates who did not qualify for an early endorsement will be made later this summer following the association’s candidate interview process.

“Washington’s economy is facing a multitude of challenges at the same time, including spiraling inflation, persistent workforce challenges, and ongoing supply chain disruptions,” said AWB President Kris Johnson. “With all of these challenges plus the threat of an economic downturn on the horizon, it’s critically important that we elect candidates who understand what employers are facing and are committed to being champions for the economy.”

Contact AWB's Mike Ennis with questions about the endorsement process or to become involved with further elections endorsements this year.

Writing Off Business Start-Up Expenses
From VSH CPA

Many new businesses will be opening as the economy returns to near normal. Generally, start-up expenses include all expenses incurred to investigate the formation or acquisition of a business or to engage in a for-profit activity in anticipation of that activity becoming an active business. New business owners, especially those operating small businesses, may be helped by a tax provision allowing them to deduct up to $5,000 of the start-up expenses and $5,000 of organizational costs in the first year of the business's operation.

Community Feedback Sought for Proposed Stormwater Park in Silverdale
Kitsap County is exploring the feasibility of transforming a vacant lot in Silverdale into a powerful stormwater park that would treat over 70 acres of stormwater runoff before it reaches Dyes Inlet.

Located on the corner of NW Bucklin Hill Road and Tracyton Boulevard, the proposed stormwater park would treat stormwater before discharging it to an existing system and outfall to Dyes Inlet. In addition to providing environmental benefits, the park could include pedestrian paths, educational elements, or open landscaped green space. Your feedback will help inform our design team on what features are important to the community. The survey is open until June 14.

This summer, Kitsap County will provide additional opportunities for the public to review, provide feedback on initial design concepts and remain involved throughout the final design process.
The Kitsap Road Report is updated each week. This latest update was released on June 3, 2022.

June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month
Did you know there’s a go-to website in Washington for individuals and families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia? Visit www.memorylossinfowa.org for help, guidance, information, and planning tools.

Some memory loss is part of aging. But memory loss that disrupts daily life could be a sign of something more serious and should be checked out by your health care provider. Don't ignore signs of memory loss or new problems related to thinking, whether they're recognized in yourself or someone else.

  • Learn more about possible signs of dementia vs. aging and additional information at the Washington Department of Health website.

Dementia can seem scary, especially if you or a loved one was recently diagnosed. Hearing from others who are in similar situations can help you better understand what lies ahead.

  • In the “Let’s Talk Dementia” video series on YouTube, here, you can hear from Washingtonians with dementia and their care partners on the value of early diagnosis and their tips for living well.
