Last Month's Results

Junior Learn-To-Shoot

We had a great group of Juniors (both boys and girls) ranging from 12-17 years old. Many of the youth had never shot a gun before. Each Junior shot about 25 rounds and then enjoyed a BBQ hot dog lunch. The Juniors used a variety of shotguns from 410's, 28 gauge and 12 gauge.

Our thanks goes out to Don Terrio who did the safety talk and helped organize the shooting squads. We could not have done the Junior Learn to Shoot without our awesome instructors who volunteered their time!!
We would like to say a HUGE thanks to all of you.
Calgary Oilmens Shoot
We had 150 shooters participate this year in the Calgary Oilmen Shoot. To add some excitement to the course each team got to shoot a 50 clay flurry in 50 seconds!
A huge thanks to STEP Energy Services, Sanjel Energy Services, and Thru Tubing Solutions for sponsoring this event.

Congratulations to Steve Brewster, our winner for the day. HOA 132/140.

Harold Schwandt- Browning Maxus

FITASC
On May 13th, Silver Willow hosted our first FITASC shoot in many years. The FITASC was very different from our typical shoots, but everyone who participated seem to have really enjoyed the course. Carl Brewster won the FITASC shoot on May 13th, with a score of 96/100.

Important Reminder!
Two boxes of shells were found on the course which are illegal here at Silver Willow.

Reminder that shot sizes allowed are 7.5, 8 or 9. May not exceed 1 1/8 oz. loads, 2 ¾ length shells. HUNTING LOADS ARE NOT PERMITTED! If you are found shooting an illegal shot size at our facility, your membership will be revoked.

The Cost of (Not) Engaging a Shooting Coach

AUTHOR: MARK ROBERTS, RETIRED FIREARMS SAFETY INSTRUCTOR / PROVINCIAL RANGE OFFICER (ONTARIO)

Neil Peart is considered one of the finest drummers in the music business, yet he was still taking lessons late into his career. His self awareness to identify room for improvement, combined with a sense of humility to accept an external source to improve likely contributed to his remarkable skills as a musician.
Yet self awareness is not necessarily synonymous with self correction because identifying room for improvement is far different than formulating a solution for it. The shooting sports are no different, and engaging a coach early into your career can save much frustration and money.
