Si View E-News May 2024

Just in case you missed it, our community's newest recreation facility, Tennant Trailhead Park, is now open. The hiking and biking trails have seen a lot of activity already, and we look forward to meeting many of you on the trails. Another community favorite, the Tollgate Farm Park, has welcomed the cows back for the summer season, including Hearty, the cow with a heart shaped marked on her forehead. Perhaps you'll spot her on your next visit!

Last month we asked if social media is your go to source for local event information. While nationally, majority of US adults indicate using social media for this purpose, only 39% of our readers responded yes. This is a helpful bit of information for us, and we'll continue to include banners, yard signs, flyers and posters as part of our event promotion kits. Thanks for taking the poll!

This month we are focused on final preparations for the launch of summer camps and the June 6th opening of the Farmers Market. While many summer camps filled quickly, there are still openings in programs for all ages. Take a look at the options here.

See you at local parks!

Farmers Market Season Opens June 6

Come taste the freshness and meet farmers with locally grown produce on Thursdays June 6-September 12, from 4-8pm at Si View Park. Our farmers market vendor mix includes fresh produce, berries, honey and botanicals; baked goods and specialty items; delicious, prepared foods and a variety of unique handcrafted goods.

To celebrate farmers market opening day and the kick-off the Summer Concert series, join us for a special celebration at 6pm on Thursday June 6th as we ring in the new season and welcome our opening day band.

Each week you will also enjoy a robust and musically diverse selection of live music at the park. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair to enjoy summer evenings with family and friends!

During the summer we publish a weekly Farmers Market e-newsletter with event details such as attending vendors, concert schedule, and other market activities. Subscribing to the weekly farmers market e-news is a great way to receive the latest updates. See you at the farmers market!

Open Enrollment for Summer Swim Lessons

Registration for summer swim lessons is Wednesday May 22nd, Si View Park District residents can access registration at 7:00am, and open enrollment begins at 12:00pm. We understand family schedules are busy during summer break and strive to offer a variety of lesson options. Summer options include nine week-long sessions in addition to the more typical once per week lessons for sessions E and F. We also offer a limited number of private lessons.

New to our swim lessons? Please review our swim lesson skills charts prior to registering. You can only register for the level that student has met the pre-requisites for. It is preferable that students succeed in the appropriate class rather than struggle in one that is difficult. All students will progress through levels at different speeds depending on age, physical coordination, practice outside of class, etc. In most cases, completing a swim level takes ten hours of instructional time. If you are new to the Si View swim lesson program but have prior experience, please contact pool staff for a swim assessment. Learn more about swim lessons and access registration links on our website.

May Family Fun

On Thursdays in May, you can find a food truck at Si View Park from 4:30pm-7:30pm providing an option for a dinner at the park (or to-go). Check out the weekly Food Trucks line-up.

The late April showers resulted in rescheduling our annual Chalk Walk event at Si View Park to Friday May 10th. We hope for better weather and that you will join us to create and enjoy outdoor art in the park. The chalk walk is a free event, please pre-register to help us prepare supplies.

On Wednesday May 22, in partnership with KCLS, families can participate in an outdoor story time at the Si View Park picnic shelter. This is a free event, please register here.
