Gan Update

Teacher: Sierra Sager

This week the Gan class learned about the synagogue building and what the different parts of the building are used for. First, they visited the office and found out that there are several people who run the synagogue. Then they peaked in to the children's library to see all of the books that are available to them to read. Next was the chapel followed by the social hall. They even went into the kitchen where they were each given a cookie and they got to high-five Mr. Calvin. They ended their tour with the big sanctuary where they had the opportunity to stand on the bimah. After the tour, the students returned to their classroom and built their own synagogue out of blocks.

Ilanot Update

Teacher: Penina Berman

This week the Ilanot class dove into the inspiring tale of David and Goliath. They learned how David, though seemingly small and scared, bravely faced the formidable giant Goliath and emerged victorious. To bring the story to life, the students engaged in a game of reverse sharks and minnows. Witnessing the challenges of being the lone 'minnow' against a group of 'sharks,' they gained a deeper appreciation for David's courage and triumph. It was a powerful lesson in overcoming obstacles and believing in oneself.

Parparim Update

Teacher: Scott Hart

This week the Parparim class began with the bracha (blessing) for the study of Torah and sang a song about kippot (head coverings)The students continued to work on their Bereishit books, through the 7th day of creation. Mr. Scott then read aloud the first section of Genesis: Jewish Children’s Bible and the beginning of Bereishit from the Jewish Study Bible. During snack, the class practiced the blessings for eating fruit, eating sweets, and drinking juice. As a reward for the children working so hard, they played Matzah Ball Bingo.

The Parparim students continue to be mensches during Shul School. Isobel helped one of the younger girls on the playground. Zachary taught the class about the continents. Ezra cleaned up the classroom and put away the bingo game. It was an excellent day.

Devorim and Nesharim Update

Teacher: Ali Perez

Purim is right aroun the corner! This week the Devorim and Nesharim students reviewed the story of Queen Esther saving the Jewish people from Haman. They learned about the Jewish values they saw in the story: ometz lev (courage of the heart) and lo ta'amod al dam re'echa (do not stand idly by when your neighbor is in danger), and how we can continue Esther's legacy by combatting antisemitism in our own day with solidarity and unity. In the next few weeks, the students will be making matanot l'evyonim (gifts for the poor) to donate to the community fridge/pantry. The students wrote statements to educate people about antisemitism that they will include in the matanot l'evyonim. Please vote on which statement you think should be included!
