Hawley Road Project Update
On Monday, March 21, the contractor will begin storm sewer work at the intersection of California Avenue and Hawley Street. This is more of the work needed to tie into the sewer that will take storm water off site while work on the pavement begins. Because this work will take place in an intersection, please take extra caution while making your way through the project. This should last a few days, depending on what conditions are encountered underground.

Work is continuing on Hawley Street. The contractor continues to install sanitary service connections between Prairie Avenue and US 45. These connections will tie into the new sewer installed last fall, so please be prepared for daily lane closures. This has been going a bit slower than expected and should last about two more weeks, which will still meet the schedule for the upcoming detour.

All this work is in preparation for the road closures planned to start on April 18. This is when the construction of the new pavement will begin and traffic will be restricted to westbound only along Hawley Street. Be on the lookout for more information on the closure and associated detour in a couple of weeks as the details are finalized.
Real Questions from Real People
What is going on with Dominick's? Response from  Amanda Orenchuk at the Village of Mundelein.

"The Village is in constant contact with the owner/management company for this shopping center, which is actively marketed.  All I can share is there are some positive conversations taking place.  We hope to have more to share publicly in the next few months"

Could you let us know if there are any new tenants coming to the shopping Center where the current Target store is located?

"The Village expects Rosati's to begin work on renovating the space where Applebee's was located in the coming months."

"Another tenant has requested to locate in the retail space east of Target. We've been contacted by their contractors to provide information regarding permits. Further information will be provided about this business in the future."
Test Your Water for Lead
I have received questions about how to test for lead in your water.  The Lake County Health Department does test for lead, but you need to get the test bottles for that from them. Call 847 377-8030 or 847 377-8022. They also have a list of companies that do testing.
Volunteer in the Fremont Township Community Garden
The Fremont Township Community Garden provides produce to our low income seniors and food pantry clients.

The mission of the Fremont Township Community Garden is to create and maintain a beautiful, productive, low maintenance, organic garden that will demonstrate gardening techniques (such as companion planting, cover crops, flowers, herbs, mulching, semi-permanent in ground beds, edible perennials, and berries), while providing an educational and community building opportunity for local residents.

If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, the Fremont Township Community Garden will be in need of help soon.

They also have a new website.

Their needs change every year, but their current wish list is:

Flagstone - to create a patio area near shed - Do you have any left over from a project?

Honeybees - we will gladly take a spring swarm if you find one!

Native Perennials - prairie plants, especially pollinator-supporting varieties
(Think of us if you are thinning yours)

Straw and bagged leaves - we use for both mulch and to add carbon rich materials to our compost bin
If you can't volunteer but would like to make a monetary donation, please contact or stop by the  Fremont Township office. (847) 223-2847

Need Help Preparing Taxes?
The AARP Tax-Aide program provides free federal and state income tax preparation to low and moderate income residents.

Although the program is sponsored by AARP and has a particular focus on preparing taxes for those ages 60 and older, you do not have to be an AARP member or any particular age to use the service. There is no limit on size of income, although there are out of scope limitations on complex return situations  for which volunteers have not been trained.

You will need to bring your Social Security Card and Photo Identification, a copy of your last year's tax return, all tax-related forms received such as W2's, 1099R's for pensions or annuities, Social Security 1099 and 1099 forms for interest and dividends. Also, bring any other tax related forms which will help the counselor to accurately prepare your return. Married couples must both be present when return is prepared unless attending spouse has power of attorney for the other spouse.

In Belle Époque Paris, the recently married Dr. Hercule Molineaux tells "one, tiny, little, hardly noticeable lie" to cover an innocent but embarrassing indiscretion. From that single untruth tumbles a cascade of increasingly convoluted deceptions, misunderstandings and mistaken identities  adding up to a hilariously zany and infectiously charming farce.A hilariously zany ride of mistaken identities, near misses and wild coincidences.
A joyously racy and infectiously charming farce of which Ben Brantley of the N.Y. Times wrote: " a shaggy poodle story... Feydeau at his silliest in which a maze lurks behind every door and cases of mistaken identity multiply like mayflies.

An original comedy, "The Dumpster Mystery" will be presented at Santa Maria del Popolo's Parish Center on at 7:30 p.m. on April 15, 16 and a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 17. Tickets are $10/person and can be purchased at the door or by calling 847.949.8300. The center is located at 115 N. Lincoln in Mundelein. It is handicap accessible.
