Show Your Heart Some Love


February is American Heart Month, so make a date with your doc if you haven't had a physical in awhile.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, but prevention is everything when it comes to bolstering your heart health. Your doctor can help by discussing any risk factors you may have, such as a family history, high cholesterol or blood pressure, and offer suggestions for preventative steps you can take.

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
  • Watch your weight.
  • Stop smoking and avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Manage your cholesterol and blood pressure levels.
  • If you drink, consume alcohol in moderation.
  • Maintain an active lifestyle and a healthy diet.
It's That Time of Year...the Flu is Here!

Just because you haven't gotten the flu this year doesn't mean you are out of the woods yet. The  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that flu activity is prevalent in 35 states. So how can you protect yourself? The CDC recommends everyone take some common sense steps to prevent contracting or spreading the flu. Read our blog  to learn more!

Home Care Plus would like to recognize Payton F. as the Caregiver of the Month for February. Payton is an exceptional caregiver who has been a with us for almost a year. Payton provides care to her clients with a high level of confidence and compassion. She offers reassurance to both the clients she cares for and their families. She is a wonderful team player, and we appreciate her flexibility and willingness to help out when needed.

Lowcountry Irish Fest Feb 11-12th

Film lovers can choose from shorts, documentaries, feature and student film categories. Take your pick from screenings, panel discussions, awards ceremonies, workshops, and celebrations throughout the weekend--or attend them all!

There is truly something for everyone during the Holy City's own annual SEWE festival. Art, demonstrations, competitions, lectures, chef demos, a Lowcountry Bluegrass Social and more.

Whale of a Sale Feb 17-18th
If you love a good find, head out to the Junior League of Charleston's biggest fundraiser, Whale of a Sale. It is known as "the biggest garage sale in Charleston!"

Chef's Feast Feb 19th
This wonderful "feast for a cause" is put on by Chef Robert Carter in collaboration with the Lowcountry Food Bank and nearly 30 of the area's most celebrated chefs. Enjoy a wide range of tasty small plates while raising funds to fight childhood hunger in the Lowcountry!

Crawl for a cause at this annual bash that raises money for the Alzheimer's Association, Pet Helpers, and other local charities.

Enjoy delicious gourmet catering and delectable chocolate desserts from Charleston's finest restaurants and bakeries. There is a silent auction with over 150 items and plenty of live music for dancing.Proceeds support Communities In Schools, a nonprofit organization that surrounds students with a community of support and helps them achieve more at school and in their personal lives.
