Hello, Spring: on March 23rd, SONC will again be conducting the annual Spring Tree Adoption event! Between 10:00 AM and until all plants are given away (typically no later than 2:00 PM) at the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks War Memorial Park, 14201 Huston St., Sherman Oaks, come adopt a new tree to plant in your yard. To be eligible to obtain a tree, you must provide your LA City ID or DWP bill. For more information on the types of trees provided and the details of this adoption program, please visit cityplants.org.
With proper watering and care, these trees will grow to provide shade for your home for years to come! The Office of Community Beautification is also offering 2 foot by 3 foot rain barrels to residents who pre-register. No yard? No problem – stop by to pick up a succulent to liven up your indoor space while supplies last. Thanks to Office of Councilmember Nithya Raman, City Plants, LA Rec and Parks, LA Beautification Team, and DWP for supporting this event.
The Outreach Committee is in planning mode for this year's summer movie series in the park. Watch upcoming SONC newsletters and our social media for dates and movies, and even more events all year long!

What is a Neighborhood Council?
The Neighborhood Council system enables meaningful civic participation for all Angelenos and serves as a voice for improving government responsiveness to local communities and their needs. We are an advisory body to the City of Los Angeles, comprised of stakeholder volunteers who are devoted to the mission of improving our communities.
Neighborhood Councils advise the Mayor, City Council and City Departments on the City budget and will give local residents greater say over the decisions that affect our lives. You can view a brief video explaining what Neighborhood Councils do and what it means to be a Neighborhood Council member here.
