Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council June 2024: Issue #24-6

Welcome to the June 2024 edition of the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council's (SONC) newsletter, the Ziff Flyer.

Message from the President

Lindsay Imber

email: lindsay.imber.sonc@gmail.com

Of special note this month, on Monday, June 10, SONC will welcome Councilmember Nithya Raman to our monthly Board Meeting. An agenda for Monday's meeting will be posted to the SONC website shortly.

The community is encouraged to attend and submit questions ahead of time, electronically, for the Councilmember.

Click here to submit a question.

On June 22, SONC will hold its first of three Free Movies in the Park events with a twilight screening of Disney-Pixar's Elemental. The movie begins at dusk along the Hazeltine softball fields at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park, but feel free to arrive early for family friendly activities and giveaways. Be sure to pack a chair or blanket and picnic dinner. We'll see you there!

I would also like to thank and recognize the service of SONC's Youth Representative, Elias Fenig, who will be leaving the board this summer. Elias has served on the Board and Human Services Committee with great passion and insight and we wish him well as he graduates from this role.

The SONC Youth Representative is selected by an ad hoc Selection Committee, appointed by the Board, and serves a one-year term. 1st Vice President Howard Katchen is chairing our current year's Selection Committee. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the Council as a Youth Representative, please e-mail Howard at hkatchen@shermanoaksnc.org.

Thank you for your continued interest in and dedication to the Sherman Oaks community. Please stay safe and be kind to one another.

With Pride and Determination—

Lindsay

What is a Neighborhood Council?
The Neighborhood Council system enables meaningful civic participation for all Angelenos and serves as a voice for improving government responsiveness to local communities and their needs. We are an advisory body to the City of Los Angeles, comprised of stakeholder volunteers who are devoted to the mission of improving our communities.

Neighborhood Councils advise the Mayor, City Council and City Departments on the City budget and will give local residents greater say over the decisions that affect our lives. You can view a brief video explaining what Neighborhood Councils do and what it means to be a Neighborhood Council member here.
