INTRODUCING THE CONSTITUTION TASK FORCE
We give thanks that Jason Champion, Holly Jones, and Paul Christensen have agreed to serve on a newly launched Constitution Task Force. This group has been chartered by the Council to review the current GSLC constitution. Our constitution contains bylaws and continuing resolutions, which relate to specific practices and details of this congregation’s organization, operation, and life. It is the foundation that clarifies up front who can do what, when, and under what circumstances. As our congregation grows and matures, and as the context changes, it is important to conduct a detailed review to ensure that the constitution continues to free us to do ministry. As it should, this can be a long and detailed process that requires approval by the Council, our ELCA Southeastern Synod, and a two-part vote by the congregation so stay tuned. If you'd like to see the current constitution, it's located here.

JUST MERCY BOOK STUDY
It is not too late to join our book study on the book, "Just Mercy", by Bryan Stevenson. This study is hosted by our Social Justice Task Force and continues at 4 PM in Fellowship Hall, next Sunday, May 19th. As we continue to become more aware of social equality and what it means, many of our members continue to be moved by what they witnessed during their recent trip to Alabama. Below is a reflection from member, Karen Epstein.
I’m not really sure what I expected when I signed on to travel to Montgomery with other members of GSLC to tour The Legacy Museum, Memorial, and Sculpture Garden. I thought I was fairly informed – I had learned and studied about slavery in school, I understood the history and, while I can never really understand completely, I recognize I am a product of white privilege regardless of whether I sought that out or not. But honestly, after visiting Montgomery, I realize that I know and understand very little.
Incredibly moving, eye-opening, overwhelming, sickening, life changing…. I could go on for days sharing what I saw, felt, and experienced. But, alas, I have only been given a paragraph 😊
There was so much that picking one or two things that struck me especially deeply is hard…..sickness, captivity, beatings, separation from family, the floor of the Atlantic littered with the discarded remains of those who did not survive the voyage, lynching's (as late as 1972!!!!), and incarceration for the smallest of offenses. Member Spotlight
Jenny Truesdale-Give A Kid A Chance
Good Shepherd does so many wonderful things that people may or may not be aware of happening. We would like to begin an effort to occasionally highlight members and some of the organizations and events they are passionate about. Our first member spotlight is Jenny Truesdale who works with Give A Kid A Chance (GSKAC). This organization provides school age (Pre-K-12th grade) children in Cherokee County the basic school supplies and backpacks for the upcoming school year. This program gives these children confidence to pick out the backpack of their choice, along with school supplies and the team provides them with words of encouragement for the school year.
From the start of GAKAC in 2006, GAKAC offered backpacks with supplies in bags, new clothes, socks, and underwear, along with medical, haircuts and lunch. They had 2 locations, Hillside and 1st Baptist of Canton. In 2020 and 2021 (COVID years), they did a drive thru in the parking lots, so the kids could still get backpacks and food. For those 2 years, there were no volunteers; only members of those churches helped. In 2022, the program shifted to add a 3rd location - Hillside, Revolution in Canton and new location Revolution in Jasper. They allowed volunteer helpers again, and the children were able to pick out their own backpacks, in addition to picking out their own supplies. This was big and the kids loved this.
