LECTURE: Dr. Jung calls the anima "the archetype of life itself," "the very soul of man," and "an extremely dramatic content of the unconscious." In this lecture we will explore how the spirit of the times, in its elevation of traditional masculine values, undermines our connection with essential feminine rhythms, resulting in psychic disturbance on every level. The need for true feminine wisdom and sustenance has never been more urgent. If it is true that, according to the Dalai Lama, "the world will be saved by the western woman," how can we heal, honor and relate to Feminine power? How can we as men and women reconnect with this vital energy in our individual lives? In the brief, dramatic life of Marilyn Monroe, we glimpse the potent anima archetype and its incredible power to delight and destroy. Though she died over 50 years ago, her beauty and allure continue to mesmerize the world. As we examine the tragic unfolding of her life, we will see how her wounds reflect ours, and can teach us to heal and empower the wounded feminine in the inner and outer realms.

Sharon Martin
Sharon Martin was born and grew up in the Deep South. She received both her bachelor's and master's degree at Emory University in the Psychosocial Nurse Practitioner program, obtaining advanced certification as Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist. This program introduced her to the exciting work of C. G. Jung. Her fascination with his deeply spiritual and scientific approach lead to her enrollment as a training candidate at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, where she received her diploma in Analytical Psychology in 2005. She began her private practice in Atlanta in 1999 and has recently relocated to the low country of Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to her analytic practice, Sharon lectures and gives workshops on Jungian theory.
