"I Dream the Ghosts of Houses"

By Lynn Graznak

Free, on display May 5-31

Lynn Graznak makes art from the collision of disparate elements to create a multileveled dialogue between the surreal and the mundane. A multi-talented, community taught craftsperson, her work includes knitting, weaving, stitchery, felting, printing original photos on silk, doll making, 3D collage, wood and metal construction in combination with original poetry and fiction.

“I Dream the Ghosts of Houses” is Graznak’s first foray into video art, including elements projected onto textiles.

JAM free public media arts programs are made possible in part through a BETTER PLACES placemaking grant through the VT Dept. of Housing and Community Development.

Changing the Mental Health Conversation

Learn Five Basic Signs of Mental Illness. That's the hope of John Broderick, Jr., in this Dartmouth Rockefeller Center lecture. The five signs? 1) Recognize emotional suffering; 2) Express concern. Offer support; 3) Act now; 4) Follow through and more. A former chief justice of the NH Supreme Court, Broderick is senior director of external affairs at Dartmouth Health and author of Backroads and Highways: My Journal to Discovery on Mental Health.

Murphy Meets Sanders

Forty four percent of high school students feel persistently sad, according to Surgeon Gen. Vivek Murthy, and 33 percent of teen girls seriously considered taking their lives in 2021. "That number should alarm all of us....Mental health is the defining public health crisis of our time," according to Murthy who recently sat down with VT Sen. Sanders. "The good news is mental health challenges are often preventable and treatable." A major driver of teen mental health woes? Social media, says Murthy.

Mental Health for Hospice Caregivers

End of life is a confusing, scary, difficult time. Dartmouth Health Chaplain Gary Shapiro and medical social worker Wendy Benedict talk about the help available for people and families. "I acknowledge and affirm caregivers' feelings and help them find strength and resilience inside themselves. For patients, so many struggle with loss of independence and accepting where they are now. Focus not on what you don't have but what you do have," says Shapiro. Courtesy of VNH: Visiting Nurse & Hospice for VT and NH.
