Happy Friday the 13th! Hope you are not superstitious about this date and weekend as many activities are happening in Downtown Gloversville!
The Glove Theatre, 42 N. Main St., will host the instrumental trio known as “TV Doctors" tonight, Friday, Sept. 13, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For tickets, visit ticketstripe.com/518tvdoctors. Later this weekend, on Sunday, Sept. 15, The Glove Theatre will host “Animal Embassy: Bringing Life to Education” at 2 p.m. Chris Evers of Animal Embassy will have live animals from diverse habitats at the event. There is a $5 suggested donation.
On Friday, Sept. 20, Micropolis Cooperative Gallery, located inside Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market at 30 N. Main St., will host a “Meet the Artists Reception” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The featured guest artist is Garlyn MaGinnis, a contemporary abstract landscape painter.
The Karpeles Museum, located at 66 Kingsboro Ave., will host the “Pop Up Sculpture Show” exhibit from Sept. 21 through Oct. 27. The opening will be held on Sept. 21 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Presented by Glove Cities Arts Alliance and Karpeles Museum, the featured artists in the show are Dawn Bisio, Vartan Bonjukian, JW Cornbroom, Christine Hughes, Lanette Kristin Hughes, Maria Kastan, Jerry Orter, Clayton Wayne Thomas, Robert Tomlinson, and Joanne Pagano Weber. Museum Hours are Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Also on Sept. 21, Dorn Space, 99 N. Main St., will host Kevin McKrell, an American-Celtic musician, at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 (cash at the door only). Tickets may be reserved by emailing dornspace@gmail.com. The Glove Theatre, 42 N. Main St., will host “Ginger Geezus” an upstate New York blue rock band, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., also on Sept 21. On Sept. 22, The Glove Theatre, 42 N. Main St., and Elizabeth Cady Stanton Hometown Association will present “Iron Jawed Angels” at 2 p.m. Before the film, the free program will begin with a historical presentation by Fulton County Historian, Samantha Hall-Saladino, highlighting Fulton County's role in the Women's Suffrage Movement.
Adirondack Soul Company, located at 60 N. Main St., has been having a soft opening for the last few weeks but on Wednesday, Sept. 25, it will hold its official grand opening celebration from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The full menu can be found on its Facebook page.
While it is not in Downtown Gloversville, our friends at Mohawk Valley Economic Development District (MVEDD) want to hear from you regarding clean energy manufacturing in the Mohawk Valley (which includes Gloversville) on Sept. 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at FMCC’s Allen House, 2805 County Highway 67, Johnstown. “Make It Mohawk Valley” is a six-organization collaboration promoting economic development throughout the region and they are creating a roadmap to help bring clean energy manufacturing to the region.
Also, at FMCC that would be of interest to Downtown Gloversville businesses, on Sept 26, is the “Everyone CHIPS In” event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an interactive program to receive an update on the semiconductor industry, meet state and local workforce partners, and have conversations to strengthen businesses.
