Each year, WPH provides an update on the local labour market through our Local labour Market Plan (LLMP). To better aid our intelligence of Hamilton’s labour market, we consult with employers, service providers, and community stakeholders to get a picture on the current labour landscape.

CHOICES Program

CHOICES


We have our Choices program starting November 22nd! The Choices program is a Cognitive-Behavior based program for youth 12-17 years old. It is delivered in 8 weekly session with a focus on important social skill related to the cost and consequences of making positive and negative decisions. The program provides youth with practical skills so they are better equipped to deal with day to day pressures they experience. Delivery methods include discussions, role plays, videos and written exercises.

HAMILTON DAY!

HAMILTON DAY IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!

 

Building on the tremendous momentum and support from our community over the past two years, Hamilton Day 2023 has expanded to a weekend of celebration.

Hamilton Day weekend will take place on Saturday November 4, with kick-off activities beginning on Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3.

EarlyOn: Nutrition Sessions

Public Health Services’ free upcoming Feeding Baby and Feeding Young Children Sessions at EarlyON Centres, led by Public Health Registered Dietitians.

Nov 1, 2023 is Take Your Kids To Work Day! Students spend the day at the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host, witnessing first-hand the world of work, prompting early career planning, and enabling students to make informed decisions about their future goals and endeavours.

Refugee Support Group

Immigrants Working Centre in partnership with OCASI has launched a Refugee Support Group. In these weekly peer-led sessions, refugees and asylum seekers in Hamilton can connect with others who’ve faced similar challenges, build connections, and discover community resources in a supportive setting. We currently have spaces available for individuals interested in participating.

Workforce development programs need to adapt to help newcomers succeed


In the third quarter of 2022, there were nearly one million job vacancies in Canada. To address the growing rate of unemployment, and slow population growth rates, the Government of Canada plans to welcome 465,000 permanent residents in 2023. This ambitious plan aims to boost Canada’s workforce and drive economic prosperity. However, for it to be successful, workforce development programs must concentrate on the successful integration of newcomers into the Canadian workforce.

Websites to help students find scholarships in Canada


It’s well known that a post-secondary education can be expensive; consider the cost, for example, of tuition, textbooks, and transportation or living on campus. It’s also well known that a post-secondary education is a prerequisite for many jobs and can be a very rewarding experience.

Scholarships are a helpful way to financially support students who want to pursue a post-secondary education. The following resources can help students – and the career practitioners who support them – identify, find and apply for scholarships for Canadian post-secondary programs.
