The City officially kicked off Expo ’74 events on May 4, 2024, with various performances including Native Voices, Kalimba Spirit of Earth, Wind and Fire, and finishing with a drone show.
In 1974, Spokane became the smallest city in history to host the World’s Fair. As an environmentally focused event, the Spokane World’s Fair sparked a transformation in the heart of our city that became the catalyst for sustainable growth in our region.
As we look toward the future, this celebration aims to reignite the nostalgia of this international milestone in Spokane’s history and invite new generations to carry the mantle of creating a cleaner and brighter tomorrow. Be sure to check out the events calendar to see what is happening throughout the summer, and take advantage of free weekend fare on all STA bus routes until July 4 so you don’t miss the excitement!

South Logan TOD Implementation Seeks Feedback
South Logan TOD Implementation is seeking formal public comment on the proposed citywide and area-specific amendments to the Spokane Municipal Code. The public comment period began May 17, 2024, and ends June 17, 2024, at 5 p.m. However, written comments will still be accepted up to the City Council public hearing, which is scheduled for June 26. At the conclusion of the public comment period, the City will review the proposed text amendments as appropriate based on the received feedback. Public comments will also be shared with the Spokane Plan Commission and City Council.
How might the project affect housing throughout Spokane? Proposed citywide code changes include targeted Center and Corridor updates, height and height transition modifications, and open space requirements for higher intensity residential development.

Accelerated Mobility Playbook
The City of Spokane was awarded a technical assistance grant to conduct an Accelerated Mobility Playbook (AMP) by the Denver based non-profit City Thread. Selected from a competitive application process, the City of Spokane is joined by Baltimore, Salt Lake, and Tampa as the latest cohort to go through City Thread’s Accelerated Mobility Playbook (AMP) Technical Assistance Grant program. Other cities that already have partnered with City Thread include Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Syracuse, NY Santa Rosa, Calif.; Indianapolis, Ind.; and Cleveland, Ohio, among others.
The AMP provides a roadmap for successful project delivery, network-focused implementation, and authentic community engagement. As housing and mobility projects come online residents will be benefited by greater freedom of choice in their housing location.

It’s already June – where did the time go?
Did you know that Spokane has watering rules that apply June 1 through October 1? As a drought response measure, an odd/even watering schedule is recommended to avoid water waste and to protect our natural resource.
