#HousingChoice

Dear Community Member,

City Starts Climate Planning Process

During the upcoming Comprehensive Plan Periodic Update, the City plans to address challenges posed by changing climate and its impact on our communities. The update, mandated by the Washington State Growth Management Act and due in 2026, presents an opportunity to integrate climate considerations into every aspect of our City's future – from transportation and land use to economic development and housing policy.

Throughout 2024 and 2025, we will be working through a process to understand Spokane's unique climate impacts and hazards, gather data and community feedback, and conduct analysis on our climate risk and community vulnerabilities.

Visit the City website for more information or sign up for climate planning updates.

Take the Regional Transportation Council Commute Survey

Click here to take a short survey to let Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) what your daily commute looks like. Commuting and available transportation options are major factors in housing affordability and where people choose to live. Your response will be used in the region's Commute Trip Reduction strategy and to have a better understanding of transportation barriers and incentives.

You get up and run," Planning Services Director Spencer Gardner says. "We felt similarly about our housing crisis. If this was an emergency, then we needed to act right away — and the elected officials and the mayor agreed with that." [Read more…]
