13th Annual Jewish University For A Day

Jewish University for A Day is an annual event at Stony Brook University that brings together leading authors, academics, rabbis, public figures, journalists and others in a day-long series of mini-courses and presentations centered around Jewish themes.

The event, sponsored by Stony Brook Hillel.

This year’s presenters include Ambassador Dennis Ross on what's next for Israel and the Mideast and a special panel discussion on antisemitism led by Bard Center for the Study of Hate's Kenneth Stern.

Also presenting will be our very own Rabbi Margie Cella telling the story of her journey to Judaism and then onto the rabbinate.

Click here for more information and to register for the program.

WITH MUCH APPRECIATION!

Here’s part of the text that I recently received from Susan D who coordinates a chapter of Welcome Friends, a local food pantry/soup kitchen:

Hi, Bonnie! Just wanted to thank you for all the food you brought for us from the synagogue. It was much appreciated… by our “guests!”

The need appears to be great; our numbers are growing beyond our expectations. Please convey our appreciation to those who help to collect it all. Nothing goes to waste!

Thank you for thinking about us!

The toiletries that we have been collecting have now been taken to various shelters.

NSJC pantry shelves are once again bare, which means that we have done a great mitzvah! We have shared of ourselves with some of those who suffer from food insecurity. But we can’t stop now! We can’t be complacent! We must continue to provide items for others who need our support. We have to restock our pantry. Just one non-perishable item each time you come to the synagogue will do the job! Let’s do this together!

Shalom from Bonnie Samuels
