Celebrating Arab American Heritage Month, Vol. 9
Eid al-Fitr
William Warren
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Program Coordinator
In several states across the country, Arab American Heritage Month is formally recognized during the month of April. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Arab American Resilience and Diversity,” highlighting the contributions of Arab Americans throughout history and their community’s rich heritage. On Wednesday, April 10, there will be no classes for students in observance of Eid al-Fitr, the holiday celebrated worldwide by Muslims to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. During Eid, Muslims gather to pray at sunrise, and then celebrate by giving gifts, visiting relatives and sharing meals together. This is the first school year that the District observes Eid, following a long-standing practice of observing other religious holidays. As an International Baccalaureate school district committed to equipping students with the knowledge of our global and multicultural society, educating our students about Arab American culture, religion and heritage is crucial to their development as global learners.
