Together, We did it!

This year’s event not only exceeded our goals but also brought our community together for a day filled with delicious BBQ, fun, and ALS awareness.

We are excited to share that the total funds raised Year-to-Date, have surpassed $52,000! This not only exceeds last year’s total but significantly surpasses our goal of $35,000. We were delighted to see over 600 people attend this year’s competition reflecting the community’s strong support and enthusiasm for the event.

This year’s success was driven by a significant increase in sponsorships totaling $30,000 compared to $10,200 last year. Additionally, in-kind donations amounting to $6,370 helped to minimize the costs for this year's event. Special thanks go to Alyssa Crosby, Ryan Wilson, and Justin Raynor for their generous donation of their musical talents. We also received invaluable in-kind support from Rentals to Go (restrooms), Labrador Rentals (garbage and dumpster needs), and United Rentals (generator). The new Bement Billings venue was graciously donated by the Newark Valley Historical Society, and our local fire departments provided essential traffic control and safety assistance.

Through this ALS awareness event, we have connected with six additional families that we are happy to be able to help support.

Equipment Donation

In June, Shady Strong embarked on a road trip to Louisiana honoring the legacy of Steve Stoots, a US Navy veteran who dedicated 20 years of his life to serving our country. Steve passed away in August 2023 after a rapid battle with ALS. Steve shared a wish with his family: to donate his ALS equipment to others in need hoping to bring comfort and support to many and to make a difference in the lives of others battling ALS. Shady Strong was entrusted with fulfilling Steve’s wishes.

We are excited to announce that we will be delivering the eye gaze device this week to a woman in Tioga County, NY who has ALS. We are honored to have a part in carrying out Steve’s legacy and making his wish a reality.
