The calendar turns to May this week! I can't believe it. It seems like just last week that we started this school year. Our kids have grown so much already! There is much to learn still and we're looking to finish the school year strong.

Author Visit This Friday

Falls alum, Mary Hoynacki is coming this Friday, May 3rd to share her book, The Groovy Blube with our students. Mary is excited to share her first children's book with the students at the school where her mother and sister both worked. She will visit classrooms, read the book, and share a cool cartoon of the book. If you'd like to purchase the book, you can at the link below.

Falls Summer Academy

2024 Falls Summer Academy (FSA) Course List: The FSA course list is published within the CE&Rec Summer Activity Guide, is posted on the SDMF CE&Rec website, and will be mailed to district residents in early April.

2024 Falls Summer Academy Registration will open online at 9PM on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

·   Session 1 registration dates: April 14-May 16, 2024*

·   Session 2 registration dates: April 14-May 30, 2024*

*Late registrations for enrichment & athletic courses will not be accepted.

School Supply Packs

Shady Valley PTO is again partnering with EPI to help make school supply shopping more convenient. They have taken our school supply list and built supply packs so you don't have to shop on your own. They are taking orders until June 9th. We will share the complete supply list for everyone soon if you'd like to purchase your own school supplies over the summer, but this is an option if you are interested.

Multicultural Fair

Save the date!

The Shady Valley PTO will host our own Multicultural Fair on Friday, May 17th, 5:30- 7:30 pm in the Valley View Gym. 

Join us for FREE food, entertainment, and family activities that celebrate the many cultures of our families and community. 

During the evening, we will have performances on stage (martial arts, dances, songs, etc), stations set up for learning, crafts, activities like henna and turban wrapping, and origami.

This event is open to families at Shady Lane and Valley View.

Manners Minute

To help our students learn important life skills, we've started sharing a Manners Minute on Thursday mornings with announcements. Some of our students have been doing a great job sharing some videos with the rest of the school to help to build some skills. This one time lesson is helpful, but to really make a difference, we need to reinforce it at school and home. During the week, staff are on the look out for students displaying these skills and giving out Hawk Bills to recognize our learning and growth. Check out this week's Manners Minute

Hello Shady Lane Elementary Families,

My name is Jackie and I am your school’s American Heart Association representative. As we’re getting close to the end of school, I wanted to send a THANK YOU message for including the American Heart Association in your school’s 2023-2024 year. Thank you for raising nearly $25,200 for Kids Heart Challenge to build healthier lives.

Thank you to the entire Shady Lane Elementary community for opening your hearts and supporting the mission of the American Heart Association in our 100^th year. You built a safer community by learning hands-only CPR, 4 signs of stroke and heart-healthy habits all while helping others. 

Thank you to each and every one of you who played a role in making this program a success!



And last but certainly not least, a truly heart-felt thank you goes out to Mrs. Resch for pouring her heart into Kids Heart Challenge. We are blessed and grateful for her leadership!

We appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for helping the American Heart Association celebrate 100 years.
