Building Bridges of

Inclusion, Justice, and Spirituality

O God of all the nations,

we gather on this day of remembrance confessing that as your children, the events of twenty three years ago have not made us much wiser or enhanced our willingness to love one another without condition. Walls still divide, fear still separates, and strangers seem stranger than ever.

Patient and loving God, look with mercy on your children gathered here today. Nudge us along the narrow way of Jesus,

that we might be healed and become healers and helpers and leaven on this good earth you have given us to steward.

Amen.

Rev. Dr. Ronald M Patterson, Bridge Minister for Plymouth UCC in Ft. Collins CO.

A Journey with Joseph Campbell and Thomas Brown

Thomas Brown lost his brother, Marc Brown, to suicide in 2001. After a decade of grief, uncertainty, and confusion, Thomas looked to make changes in his life. In 2012, along with a friend who had also lost a brother to suicide, Thomas set out on a 7,000-mile cross-country bicycle tour for suicide awareness and the healing power of art. The journey began on the northern edge of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and ended in Wappinger's Falls, New York, at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, the art retreat center of artists Alex and Allyson Grey.

Twelve years after the bike tour, Thomas has released his book, 2012: A Bicycle Odyssey. Using Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth of the Hero’s Journey, Thomas uses his experience to show the importance of seeing one's life through the lens of myth. Through his book, Thomas invites the reader to use stories from myth to contemporary literature, film, and music to understand oneself and one's place in the world.

Thomas will begin his class October 6th at 9 am in the Multipurpose Room. It will go through the Sundays of October. RSVP for the class by contacting Thomas Brown or Pastor Ken.

NEW SOFFITS FOR THE SANCTUARY BUILDING! CHECK!

Thanks to a generous act of stewardship we no longer have dangly pieces of tape and sheetrock hanging from the edges of our outdoor ceiling. This project beautified our sanctuary building and brought us into compliance with insurance concerns. We thank Roy Zaborowski, the facilities team, and our donor for making this happen.

4Q41 or 4QDeuteronomyn (often abbreviated 4QDeutn or 4QDtn), also known as the All Souls Deuteronomy, is a Hebrew Bible manuscript from the first century BC containing two passages from the Book of Deuteronomy. The manuscript was discovered in 1952 in a cave at Qumran, near the Dead Sea. The scroll preserves the oldest existing copy of the Ten Commandments. Ten Commandments. It is dated to the early Herodian period, between 30 and 1 BC. I do not think this is what Christian Nationalists intend when they want laws to ensure the 10 Commandments are posted in every classroom.

Progressive Christianity and the 10 Commandments, September 15th at 10:15 am.

Pastor Ken is offering messages on Sept. 15th and October 20th hoping to bring hope and assurance of progressive faith leading up to the November election. The messages are a response to the July Sabbath survey. October 20th message will be on the topic of women's reproductive rights and freedoms.
