Building Bridges of

Inclusion, Justice, and Spirituality

GEARING UP!?!

I tend to divide the year into bite-size pieces, and those pieces follow the school and liturgical calendars. There is the season between January and Easter, the slide from Easter to July Sabbath, the return in August, and the "gearing up" and "full launch" into fall programming. Finally, there is the full cornucopia of programming in the fall and the build-up to Christmas.

We stand on the threshold of one of these bite-size pieces.

Many people have been planning and working to provide you and your family a variety of positive experiences. While our goal is to gift you with our offerings of worship, messages, music, education, community, food, fellowship, service, and spiritual formation, we do not want to add to your feeling of a life already too busy. We want to add to your peace and joy. So, talk to us and let us know how you are doing and how we may help each other.

Pastor Ken

Beer Church:  Why Beer is Better Than Religion

1. With beer, you do not knock on doors and try to give it away.

2. With beer, there are laws prohibiting people from forcing it on minors before they can think for themselves.

3. With beer, no one has ever been burned at the stake because of their favorite brand of beer.

4. With beer, you do not have to wait over two thousand years for a second beer.

5. With beer, if you devote your life to beer, there are groups to help you.

NEW SOFFITS FOR THE SANCTUARY BUILDING! CHECK!

Thanks to a generous act of stewardship we no longer have dangly pieces of tape and sheetrock hanging from the edges of our outdoor ceiling. This project beautified our sanctuary building and brought us into compliance with insurance concerns. We thank Roy Zaborowski, the facilities team, and our donor for making this happen.

Sunday Morning Is Loaded With Opportunities to Serve, Connect, and Engage

Contact Liz Curry for details!

Opportunities to connect with others and your service with your spirituality exist beyond Sunday mornings.

  • Put your name on a list to drive people to medical appointments, provide meals while people are recovering from surgery, run errands, and be good company. We want to create a "Driving Force" for our congregation and beyond.
  • Add your name to a list of people who provide stewardship for the needs and maintenance of our campus. This can include trimming trees, fixing a toilet, repairing an irrigation line, replacing light bulbs, and more things than can be listed in this space.
  • Perhaps kindness and hospitality flips your gizzard in a positive way. We have events at Shadow Rock and we want people to act as hosts to the groups who use our facility. Coming up this fall are theater groups who will be on our campus for rehearsals and performances. Being a go-to person for their questions and lock the door behind them.

The number of people listed for each opportunity for Sunday morning and beyond is the bare minimum. Almost every opportunity to serve would be enriched by a team of servant leaders. We will provide training and coordination. With more than one person for each opportunity, it will give everyone a chance to take a break or be out of town. The true intention is to enhance everyone's joy.

If you want to serve in any of these opportunities you can start by having a conversation with Lois and Pastor Ken. Thanks and spread the joy!

4Q41 or 4QDeuteronomyn (often abbreviated 4QDeutn or 4QDtn), also known as the All Souls Deuteronomy, is a Hebrew Bible manuscript from the first century BC containing two passages from the Book of Deuteronomy. Discovered in 1952 in a cave at Qumran, near the Dead Sea. The scroll preserves the oldest existing copy of the Ten Commandments. Ten Commandments. It is dated to the early Herodian period, between 30 and 1 BC. I do not think this is what Christian Nationalists intend when they want laws to ensure the 10 Commandments are posted in every classroom.

Progressive Christianity and the 10 Commandments, September 15th at 10:15 am.

Pastor Ken is offering messages on Sept. 15th and October 20th hoping to bring hope and assurance of progressive faith leading up to the November election. The messages are a response to the July Sabbath survey. October 20th message will be on the topic of women's reproductive rights and freedoms.
