Senator  Ed Harbison

It is hard to believe that next Tuesday, April 2, will bring to a close our 2019 legislative session. Last week, the Senate debated and voted on 25 House Bills and Resolutions. Our members have also been very busy in committee meetings, vetting bills to meet this Thursday's deadline to pass bills out of committee.

Last Thursday brought us one step closer to passing the Fiscal Year 2020 General budget, House Bill 31. Our Appropriations committee approved HB 31, making one change to the House version that I would like to highlight. The Senate raised the proposed teacher salary increase back to $3,000, as originally proposed in the Governor's budget.

I am pleased with this change as our children's education is a top priority. We should reward and encourage our educators who play such an important role in securing the success of our students and ultimately our state. This change must be agreed upon by the House prior to final passage of the bill for the raise to stay in at the proposed Senate rate.

Click my full update below to see a quick highlight of bills passed out of the Senate last week. House Bills which were changed on the Senate side must go back to the House for agreement before final passage. Those bills which were not changed, will go to the Governor for his final review.

As always, I will continue to update you on issues of importance. If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to contact me at anytime. Thank you for the great honor of allowing me to serve as your voice under the Gold Dome! Be blessed my friends...
