Dear Friend,
Happy Friday! This week I was in Congress working hard to deliver results for California's 39th District. Take a look:

Funding the 57/60 Confluence Project
Great news! The 57/60 Confluence Project was awarded a $30 million federal grant from the Department of Transportation. Securing funding for this project has been a top priority of mine in Congress. I led a bipartisan letter with Rep. Grace Napolitano to Transportation Secretary Buttigieg in support of the project, requested federal funding and educated my colleagues on this issue. I am committed to delivering results for CA-39.

Only together can we address our nation's infrastructure. There is wide consensus from both parties that we must fix the broad deficiencies of our ports, highways, bridges, and roads – but any infrastructure action by Congress must be targeted and effective in addressing our competitiveness abroad. For example, CA-39 is home to major trade corridors such as the 57/60 Freeway Confluence, which is the worst truck bottleneck in the state and sixth-worst in the nation.
Rushing through another costly bill without bipartisan input is not the way to meet communities' needs. That's why I worked with the Problem Solvers Caucus on a bipartisan infrastructure framework. Learn more about our plan here.

Supporting STEM Opportunities
As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we must ensure our students can learn the skills needed to join our workforce. STEM education is the pathway to U.S. job creation, economic growth and global leadership.
Congressional App Challenge
Learning STEM skills will help create opportunities for students, grow our workforce, strengthen our future economy and boost U.S. competitiveness abroad.
I encourage all of our middle and high school students across the district to challenge their STEM abilities by participating in this year’s CA-39 Congressional App Challenge, which officially launched on June 24.
It is never too late to learn to code. In fact, last year nearly half of the students who entered the App Challenge described themselves as coding beginners before the challenge. Visit my website and click on the video above to learn more.

Honoring the 71st Anniversary of the Korean War
Today marks the 71st Anniversary of the start of the Korean War. As an immigrant from South Korea whose family lived through the Korean War , and as a wife and sister of veterans, I know that I am here because of the sacrifices of those who fought to protect freedom.

Preserving the Fullerton Library - Hunt Branch
As we reopen our communities, we must ensure workers of all ages and backgrounds are not discriminated against for any reason.
On Thursday, I introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning honor killings in Iran with Rep. Cicilline. I was deeply saddened and disturbed by the murder of an openly gay man earlier this year by his own family. The United States must continue to stand for human rights across the world. Learn more here.
Iran’s new President Ebrahim Raisi has proven he cannot be trusted. President Biden should condemn Mr. Raisi for his part in committing atrocities and crimes against humanity.

Supporting Local Business
My team was proud to help congratulate Alfonso Cisneros, Frankie Garcia and their team on the grand opening of Garcia’s South of the Border Cantina & Grill in Fullerton!
Co-owners Alfonso and Frankie became friends as Frankie worked with his father at La Casa Garcia in Anaheim. Alfonso was serving in the Los Angeles Police Department, now a high-ranking Reserve Officer. Their partnership took off when they invested in Garcia Shack Catering, a food truck and catering business. Then Frankie opened his first restaurant, La Casita OC in Orange, building on his father's recipes.
Frankie and his executive chef Marco Colin have spent months in the kitchen together creating the final menu for Garcia's South of the Border Cantina & Grill. While their opening has been delayed due to COVID-19, they donated thousands of meals to law enforcement, fire fighters, local hospitals and first responders throughout Orange County.
We're thrilled that you all can finally open in CA-39!

Recognizing Local Leaders
It was a pleasure to recognize the outgoing and incoming board members of the North OC Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations to Theresa Harvey, who was recognized for 16 years of outstanding service, and to the new NOCC CEO Andrew Gregson.
The work of the NOCC is crucial as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, support our businesses, and get our economy back on track. I'm grateful for their successes and perseverance as an organization. Learn more about NOCC's efforts here.

Celebrating Father's Day in CA-39
I hope all of the dads and father figures in CA-39 had a great Father’s Day! It was a joy to celebrate my husband, Charles, at Ong Ga Nae Korean BBQ in Rowland Heights with my daughter Christine and her husband Phil. I’m grateful to have him by my side as a devoted father to Christine, Kelly, Alvin and Hannah.
On Father’s Day and every day I miss my dad, Hak Sun Choe. I’ll never forget how proud he was to see me receive my college degree at the University of Southern California and watch his American Dream become a reality. I’m grateful for the sacrifices he made and hope he is looking down at his youngest daughter with pride.
