Dear Friend,
I hope you had a great week! I was busy in California's 39th District, working hard for you. Here are the highlights:

Asking for Your Input on Infrastructure
As your Representative, I want to hear from you so I can fight for you in Congress.
I hope you will take two minutes to share your thoughts on what Congress should do to improve our infrastructure in California’s 39th Congressional District and the nation.

On Saturday, I visited Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, a lifeline for many in CA-39 during COVID-19. Their team worked quickly to adapt to safety provisions and expand their efforts to serve more of our community. The all-volunteer Harvest Truck Brigade delivered an incredible 95,642 fresh boxes to those who needed it most: families with small children, seniors isolated at home and people with critical care needs. They also hired 140 people who lost their job due to the pandemic as temporary employees.
It was a joy to see the entirety of their efforts in action and meet their remarkable team. I am so grateful for their commitment to our communities!

Honoring Our Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day
This Memorial Day weekend, I was reminded of a quote from the Korean War Veterans Memorial: “Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.”
As an immigrant and a proud wife and sister to U.S. veterans, my heart is full of gratitude for those who have served in our nation’s uniform and their loved ones.
I was honored to attend Memorial Day Remembrance ceremonies in Buena Park, Yorba Linda and Anaheim as our community across California’s 39th District paid tribute to our fallen heroes and their loved ones. We will always remember their names and share their stories.

Remembering Sergeant Vaca
My heart breaks for the loved ones of Sergeant Dominic Vaca and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Sergeant Vaca selflessly protected and served our communities for 17 years with the Department.
I am grateful for academy personnel who rearranged the academy arrowhead to honor Sergeant Vaca (call sign 9S5) and to the Sheriff’s Honor Guard who will stand watch over Sergeant Vaca until the day of his funeral. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Interns in my office hear directly from constituents on local issues, assist with legislative research and casework, help at community events, and more. I am pleased to offer students this unique educational opportunity to participate in the legislative branch of government.
Thank you to Bill, Katrine, Jacqueline, David and Ethan for your hard work serving California's 39th district in my Placentia office this Spring. I know the future is bright for each of you!

Taking Cyberattacks Seriously
Cybersecurity is critical for our national security. From the COVID-19 pandemic exposing supply chain vulnerabilities to recent cyberattacks threatening our fuel and food supply, it is clear that more must be done to protect our nation from cyberattacks and secure our resources.

Visiting Friends Christian School
I enjoyed visiting with the bright fourth graders at Friends Christian School in Yorba Linda to teach them about the legislative branch on Government Day and share my American Dream story. I have a feeling I'll see some of these amazing students in the halls of Congress one day!

I join the Orange County community in calling for justice to be served against those responsible for the senseless killing of 6-year-old Aiden Leos. The Leos family deserves justice as they mourn the unimaginable loss of their son, brother. As a mother, I can’t imagine the sadness and deep sorrow Aiden's mom and family are going through.
I am grateful to Station Donuts in Yorba Linda for bringing the community together over the weekend to support the Leos family. I am sending all my love and prayers their way.

Supporting Small Businesses with the PPP Extension Act
Our small business owners in California’s 39th District and across U.S. communities were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. In California alone, nearly 20,000 businesses had to permanently close their doors.
I am proud to have worked on H.R. 1799, the PPP Extension Act, to provide small business owners more time to apply for PPP relief to keep their doors open and employees on the payroll. The bill passed the House on March 16, 2021 and was signed into law by President Biden on March 30, 2021. Thankfully, millions of small business owners benefited from this deadline extension. As a former small business owner and Ranking Member of the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Workforce Development Subcommittee, I will continue to do all I can to fight for American entrepreneurs.

Empowering Individuals with the Confidence and Skills They Need to Join Our Workforce
Working Wardrobes is a non-profit that provides professional attire and career development services to veterans, underserved jobseekers and high-risk populations. Their goal is to empower clients with “the Power of the Paycheck” by providing much-needed tools to enter the workforce. After their HQ in Irvine was destroyed in a fire last February, the Working Wardrobes team sprung into action to rebuild and serve clients during COVID-19. I am thrilled by their outstanding efforts and enjoyed visiting their headquarters to learn more about their important work to empower individuals in our community.
